Overwatch 2 Will Host Two 6v6 Playtests in Season 14

As a seasoned Overwatch player with countless hours under my gaming belt, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement at the prospect of these upcoming tests for the 6v6 format in Overwatch 2! After months of eager anticipation, it seems that Blizzard is finally ready to shake things up, and I for one am ready to adapt.

In line with the commitment made in July, Blizzard Entertainment has verified that they will conduct two trials for the 6v6 gameplay style within Overwatch 2 during Season 14. One of these tests is scheduled to go live approximately a week following the start of the new season.

In this setup, we’re deviating from the conventional 2-2-2 Role Queue structure. Instead, it will allow for at least one hero per role and a maximum of three. So, if you fancy a team with two Tanks, three Damage, and one Support, feel free to do so! Additionally, players have the flexibility to switch roles during gameplay as well.

This system is referred to as a balance between “Role Queue” and “Open Queue,” offering insights into how heroes, abilities, and updates function within a 6v6 setup before we move on to other tests. For those longing for a traditional 6v6 experience with Role Queue, the second test, set to launch mid-season, is available for participation.

Option: The tests will be offered individually as unranked playlists, featuring unique balance adjustments, notably focusing on Tank survivability and power, which has grown significantly in recent months. Additionally, Blizzard plans to assess if the current 6v6 format necessitates as many role-specific passives.

Overwatch 2: Season 14 doesn’t have a start date, but it should arrive sometime in mid-December.
