On April 17, 2025, Blizzard debuted a gameplay trailer for Overwatch 2’s active Season 16. Notable updates announced in it included the introduction of Stadium Mode, the arrival of Damage Hero Freja, and a planned partnership with the timeless anime series Gundam Wing.
Skip ahead eleven days, and Blizzard revealed a new Overwatch 2 trailer, showcasing the Gundam Wing collaboration in detail. This collaboration is set to release on April 29, 2025.
From April 29, 2025 to May 13, 2025, there’s a temporary collaboration between Overwatch 2 and Gundam Wing! During this period, players have the chance to collect unique skins for various Overwatch characters, styled after mechs from the Gundam Wing anime. This collaboration is only available for a limited time.
These skins include:
- Mercy as Wing Gundam Zero.
- Ramattra as Epyon.
- Soldier: 76 as Tallgeese.
- Reaper as Deathscythe.
Besides the decorative skins, players have the opportunity to acquire Gundam Wing-themed rewards such as the Shinigami title and Zero System spray by successfully completing specific challenge tasks within this event.
Gundam Evolution lives on in Overwatch 2.

If you’re not familiar, Gundam Wing is the sixth significant series within the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, an extended anime series focusing on mecha that has been popular since its debut in 1979.
The anime narrates the stories of five Gundam pilots, each battling under the banner of the Space Colonies with the aim of freeing Earth from the oppressive rule of the United Earth Sphere Alliance.
Similar to many Gundam series, it’s an epic tale revolving around conflict, complex politics, character growth, and thrilling action sequences featuring towering robots.
It’s quite strange to witness Gundam collaborating with Overwatch, considering that back in 2022, Bandai Namco made an effort to develop their own version of Overwatch, which they named Gundam Evolution. Sadly, this project didn’t have a long lifespan, as the game’s servers were shut down on November 29, 2023, marking the end of its service after roughly a year.
At least a portion of Gundam Evolution will survive within the game from which it was originally conceived.
Blizzard is going crazy with these crossovers
Overwatch 2 hasn’t shied away from teaming up with other popular franchises like Cowboy Bebop, One Punch Man, and Transformers. Interestingly, the recent collaborations with Gundam Wing and Diablo 4’s Berserk have created a flurry of crossovers in Blizzard Entertainment lately.
Could it be possible that World of Warcraft might team up with another popular franchise too? Might it eventually lead to the long-awaited fusion of the two most renowned MMOs – World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy 14 – taking place?
Although it seems highly improbable, even the merging of Diablo 4 with Berserk was unexpected. So, let’s keep an open mind about what the future may bring. We’ll just have to wait and discover the truth for ourselves.
As an avid Overwatch fan, I’m thrilled to share that the eagerly awaited Stadium Mode in Overwatch 2 is now live on Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC. Let’s jump right in!
