Owen Cooper Lands Major Role in Wuthering Heights – What’s Next for the Young Star?

Besides its compelling content, unique single-take filming technique, and numerous profound moments, the film “Adolescence” showcases an exceptional performance by the talented young actor, Owen Cooper, who portrays the character of 13-year-old Jamie Miller.

Adolescence marked both Cooper’s initial appearance on television and his very first acting role overall. Interestingly, his participation in the primarily two-person third episode of the Netflix series was also his inaugural experience on a film set.

Though some audiences might struggle to accept that Cooper had no previous acting experience before Adolescence, it appears that his future in showbiz is promising, given that his upcoming role has already been secured – and it will be featured in a significant film production.

In the upcoming movie version of Emily Brontë’s novel “Wuthering Heights,” directed by Emerald Fennell, Cooper will be playing the role of a youthful Heathcliff. The casting has been officially confirmed.

In a casting update, Jacob Elordi, famously known for his roles in Saltburn and Euphoria, will depict the adult version of the character alongside Margot Robbie. On the other hand, the young version of the renowned literary figure will be brought to life by another actor named Cooper.

When the news about the casting was made public (through Variety), the movie “Adolescence” had not been released yet. However, Cooper later confirmed that they were nearing the end of their filming schedule for “Wuthering Heights,” having a few weeks left to complete it.

In a conversation with Variety, he shared his thoughts: “Things have been fantastic. I’ve found the experience incredibly enjoyable. Of course, it’s no longer a one-time deal! So I’m adjusting to that change. But overall, it’s been extraordinary. Emerald is simply delightful.

Actually, he landed his part in Wuthering Heights because of a serendipitous encounter during his teenage years. At fifteen, he disclosed that it was his co-star, Stephen Graham, who had personally suggested Cooper’s talent to his own agency.

Maddi [Bonura, from Independent Talent] stopped by to catch a glimpse of episode 1, and I received the book “Wuthering Heights” as a result.

Currently, Cooper doesn’t have any future projects scheduled, but he expressed his desire to continue acting and potentially collaborate with Adolescence director, Philip Barantini once more.

Regarding Wuthering Heights, the movie signifies a reunion for Fennell and Elordi, following their previous collaboration on Saltburn.

Many are eagerly awaiting the upcoming adaptation of Wuthering Heights, given that its director has already successfully helmed films like Promising Young Woman and boasts a talented cast featuring Hong Chau, Shazad Latif, and Alison Oliver.
