As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve been closely following the ongoing drama between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni from their “It Ends With Us” film. Recently, an intriguing twist has emerged involving a legendary yellow video game icon – yes, you guessed it, Pac-Man! For quite some time now, Baldoni was slated to direct and produce a live-action Pac-Man movie, in collaboration with Bandai Namco Entertainment, the powerhouse behind the 80s gaming sensation. Although we haven’t seen this character shine on the big screen yet, it appears that Baldoni’s next project – a live-action Pac-Man movie – might be put on hold… perhaps indefinitely.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that, according to The Hollywood Reporter, it seems our beloved actor and director, Baldoni, will helm the Pac-Man movie! This revelation, hinting at his steps towards the future, comes after years of meticulous development.
During the press tour, a subtle drama between Baldoni and some co-stars emerged, with him choosing not to participate in interviews or photos with other cast members. As the media pieced together this intriguing puzzle, Baldoni decided to unveil his long-standing Pac-Man project, which has been under development since 2022, through his production company Wayfarer Studios.
Justin Baldoni’s Live-Action Pac-Man Movie is Doubtful Amid Lively Lawsuit
In essence, Baldoni’s “Pac-Man” project aimed to translate the classic game character, Pac-Man, from a digital maze to our physical world, where he would chase and capture ghosts. The movie idea originated with Chuck Williams from Lightbeam Entertainment, who is famed for his work on the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog film. Alongside Tim Kwok, producer of “Knights of the Zodiac”, Williams was attached to produce this project, and Christopher Yost, writer of Thor: Ragnarok, was set to write the script for it.
Despite initial doubts about a live-action Pac-Man film coming to fruition, it appears that discussions about its future are underway among all business associates of Bladoni’s Wayfarer. At present, Bandai Namco has remained silent on the matter. Previously, the video game company has loaned its iconic Pac-Man character for various Hollywood productions, including a minor role in Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph in 2012 and a larger part in the 2015 live-action movie Pixels.
At present, it appears that this project may be in a challenging position. Following Lively’s complaint on December 21st, both Baldoni and Wayfarer were dropped by Hollywood agency WME, their primary connection for securing financing from executive producers. Given Baldoni’s strained reputation within the industry, the prospect of this project progressing seems uncertain. As legal documents continue to surface, the director of It Ends With Us has left a significant mark on the entertainment world with numerous unsuccessful efforts to regain favor, such as his claim that Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Wolverine in Nicepool were inspired by Baldoni himself.
It’s been said that besides casting doubt on his Pac-Man movie, Baldoni has also shelved two other projects he was working on. Although a Pac-Man film could potentially materialize in the future, given its potential, it seems highly improbable that Baldoni will be involved in it.
