The culmination of the Spring Showcase during The Future Games Show brought an unexpected revelation: the revival of the game Painkiller. This upcoming title is being developed by Anshar Studios, in collaboration with 3D Realms and Saber Interactive. Anticipate its release this Fall on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Here’s a sneak peek of the initial gameplay:

Painkiller, originally titled in 2004 by People Can Fly, is being reintroduced as a refreshed version, offering three-player cooperative gameplay (even though it’s also playable solo offline). As one of the four Champions, you’ll be tasked with combating Azazel, waves of demons, and the Nephilim before they succeed in destroying Earth.
Besides conventional weaponry, Painkiller also includes fresh features such as grappling and dashing mechanisms. Each Champion has unique energy levels, power, damage output, and health, while Tarot Cards serve to enhance abilities. Work together with other players, and you might just have a fighting chance against the overwhelming onslaught of evil forces.
Keep an eye out as we reveal further information and gameplay for “Painkiller” within the next few months. Meanwhile, it’s worth noting that People Can Fly are currently developing a new project titled “Lost Rift“, a survival game set to launch in early access this year.
