It’s been confirmed by Pocketpair that certain modifications they’ve made to Palworld throughout its development have been linked to their ongoing legal disputes with Nintendo concerning specific patents. As reported by IGN, in a recent announcement, the company disclosed that the upcoming patch 0.3.11 set for November 2024 had one of these modifications – an alteration to how summoning Pals functioned, transforming them into static companions near the player.
The company stated that they are currently embroiled in lengthy lawsuits over accusations of patent violations. They are challenging these allegations and arguing that the patents being disputed are invalid. To prevent any interruptions to the production and release of Palworld, some adjustments have been necessary.
I’m excited to share some insights about the updates we made in November, and why they were implemented. As many gamers might have guessed, these modifications were a direct response to ongoing legal issues with Nintendo. Yes, you heard it right! The studio acknowledged that this was indeed the case. We at Pocketpair were saddened to make such adjustments, but we understand that many of you share our frustration. Regrettably, failing to do so would have resulted in a more significant decline in gameplay quality for our players. Therefore, we deemed it essential to carry out these changes to preserve the best possible gaming experience for all.
Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that Pocketpair has plans for another modification in their game, following the same legal issues with Nintendo. This update, known as version 0.5.5, aims to alter the gliding feature significantly. Instead of using Pals for gliding, players will now need a separate glider. Despite this change, Pals will continue to provide passive boosts to the players’ gliding abilities.
The team acknowledges that these modifications might be upsetting, as they are themselves affected, but they believe it’s crucial for the uninterrupted progress of Palworld. They also express their regrets for the inconvenience and worry this prolonged legal battle may have caused among their fans.
Rest assured, we’re dedicated to growing the world of Palworld and providing fresh, thrilling updates for our loyal followers. Once more, a big thank you from all of us here at Pocketpair and Palworld Team for your unwavering backing.
Ever since it launched in January 2024, the game Palworld has been an incredible hit for Pocketpair. In fact, they announced back in February that over 32 million people have played this game across all platforms. This is quite a leap from the 25 million players it had attracted just a month after its initial release.
The company has disclosed its content strategies for Palworld in 2025, encompassing developments such as enhanced methods to boost Pals, additional content like new Pals and technologies, and a concluding storyline revolving around the World Tree. Moreover, the 2025 plans incorporated the implementation of cross-platform multiplayer, a feature that has already been implemented through an update released in March.
