Palworld Developer Wants to Give Indie Devs Financial Freedom to Make the Games They Want

Following the unveiling of its intentions to broaden its game development business into publishing this past month, it appears that Palworld‘s developer Pocketpair has been inundated with emails from smaller independent studios. John Buckley, communications director and publisher at Pocketpair, recently shared on social media platform X that the move has garnered significant popularity within the company.

15 hours ago, we introduced Pocketpair Publishing… Prior to that, my inbox was empty… I may have underestimated the level of curiosity surrounding this topic, as indicated by Buckley’s post on X.

It appears that the company prefers to adopt a non-interfering strategy when it comes to the games they release. In response to a question about Pocketpair’s involvement in game development, Buckley stated that they aim to provide developers with the financial autonomy needed to create their own games.

Buckley posted: ‘Here’s some money, use it to create your game.’ Essentially, you have full creative control. If you need assistance with marketing or anything else, we’re here to help. But mostly, we want to empower developers by providing them the financial independence to develop games without being dictated by rigid rule-makers and intimidating bullies.

Currently, Pocketpair is not disclosing any additional details about potential games they plan to publish. However, they are collaborating with Surgent Studios, developers of Tales of Kenzera: Zau, on a horror game project. As per Abubakar Salim, the studio head of Surgent Studios, they are not only working on this newly-announced game but also discussing possibilities for future games that will be based within the universe of Tales of Kenzera: Zau.

Apart from their ongoing work on their own game, Pocketpair recently rolled out an update for Palworld, which embraces Spring with a fresh batch of skins for your adorable Pals. This latest version also incorporates balance adjustments into the game, introducing the Earth element to both Mammorest and Mammorest Cyst.

In a recent conversation, Buckley discussed the World Tree in Palworld, mentioning that plot points related to it have been planned out for a while. Notably, players have already seen this tree in-game, and it was believed that the game’s conclusion would transpire there. However, Buckley has hinted that the appearance of the World Tree doesn’t necessarily signal the final chapter for Palworld.

Regarding the upcoming collaborations for the game, it was announced in November that Pocketpair will be working together with the developers of Terraria, Re-Logic. Although specifics about this joint event haven’t been revealed yet, fans are excitedly speculating that features from both games might merge. It remains to be seen if characters from Terraria could appear in Palworld or if boss fights from Palworld will show up as new enemies in Terraria. The exact details are still under wraps by both companies.

In the recent significant upgrade for Palworld, we saw the arrival of Feybreak, which includes the title island among its features. This update also ushered in a fresh faction for gamers to engage with, along with a new raid. From a gameplay perspective, players now have the opportunity to chase down lawbreakers lurking across the globe, and investigate long-lasting performance enhancements.
