Palworld on Switch 2?! You Won’t Believe What the Devs Said!

Previously, Palworld was launched on PC and Xbox Series X|S last year, with the PS5 version following shortly after. As of now, it hasn’t been released on any Nintendo platform, but there are indications that this might change. In a recent conversation with IGN at Game Developers Conference, John “Bucky” Buckley from Pocketpair mentioned that Palworld’s substantial requirements made it challenging to execute effectively on the existing Nintendo Switch hardware. However, he did not dismiss the possibility of a future version for the Nintendo Switch 2. Interestingly, he added that Pocketpair is not yet acquainted with the hardware specifications of the Nintendo Switch 2.

We haven’t had a glimpse of those specifications as of now. Just like everyone else, we’re eagerly anticipating their reveal. I’ve been roaming around GDC hoping someone might share them with me, but so far, everyone I’ve talked to claims they haven’t even caught sight of them yet,” Buckley shared with IGN. “If it’s powerful enough, it’s absolutely worth considering. We’ve done extensive optimization for the Steam Deck, which we were quite pleased with. There’s still work to be done, but we’re really satisfied with the outcome. So, if feasible, we’d love to make it available on more handheld devices.

Despite the appealing features of Palworld, there are several obstacles preventing its release on Nintendo’s latest platform. One significant issue is the ongoing lawsuit between Nintendo and The Pokemon Company against Pocketpair over Palworld, which was initiated last year. The outcome of this legal battle is yet unknown, but it could potentially lead to a resolution between the companies. The lawsuit alleges that Palworld violates several patents, such as those related to the use of Poke Balls. Since the lawsuit was filed, Pocketpair has made significant changes to Palworld in an apparent attempt to address the situation.

It may seem unlikely that the game Palworld will appear on Nintendo Switch 2, but given the recent collaboration between Nintendo and Pocketpair, as evidenced by the release of Overdungeon on the platform earlier this year, it’s not entirely out of the question. Although a legal dispute exists between them, it appears that it hasn’t hindered their partnership. Whether or not Palworld will follow suit remains to be seen as the situation unfolds.

Next week on April 2nd, there’ll be a Nintendo Direct presentation that’ll give us all a clearer picture about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. This is our first official glimpse into the system since its unveiling in January, and while we don’t know exactly what to anticipate, rumors suggest we might learn about the specifications and the kind of third-party games that the Nintendo Switch 2 could potentially run. The wait has been long, but it seems like we’re nearing the end of the anticipation.
