As a gamer who’s been through countless console wars and platform exclusives, the prospect of Palworld gracing the hallowed grounds of my PlayStation 5 is nothing short of exhilarating! Over the past few years, I’ve witnessed the meteoric rise of this unique open-world adventure game on PC and Xbox, but alas, my trusty DualSense controller has remained untouched by its magical charm.
2024 saw Palworld as one of the most unexpected hits, selling millions on PC and gaining a large following on Xbox Game Pass. PlayStation 5 players have been eagerly waiting for the game since it debuted on other platforms, and it appears an announcement is imminent. According to Gematsu, the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) has revealed a list of games that will be showcased at Tokyo Game Show, which includes a PS5 version of Palworld, suggesting an official unveiling at the event.
As with any rumor or leak, readers are advised to take this with a grain of salt pending an official announcement. That said, Palworld developer Pocketpair has given plenty of indications that a PS5 version of the game could be in development. Back in March, Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe told Bloomberg that there had been discussions with companies to bring Palworld to their platforms, though Mizobe did not specifically mention any by name. A few months later, Pocketpair’s community manager seemed to hint at an impending PlayStation announcement.
It’s important to mention that Palworld Entertainment was introduced back in July. This company is a collaboration between Pocketpair, Sony Music Entertainment, and Aniplex. In essence, it serves the same function as The Pokemon Company, aiming to extend the influence of the intellectual property and broaden commercial ventures for the game. Previously, PlayStation had expressed interest in hosting Palworld, and with Sony now being a part owner of Palworld’s success, it seems highly likely that a PS5 version will be released.
As a fervent supporter, I can’t help but ponder if Palworld might unveil its presence on the PS5 at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show. While it’s not a certainty, considering the series of events over the past few months, it wouldn’t be entirely unexpected. Pocketpair seems to be keen on expanding the game’s reach, and debuting on Sony’s platform could significantly aid that goal. The Tokyo Game Show is scheduled to commence on September 26th, so we won’t have long to discover the truth!
