Palworld Will Not Switch to Live Service Free-to-Play Model, Developer Confirms

As a devoted fan of Palworld since its early days, I can’t help but breathe a sigh of relief upon reading the recent announcement from Pocketpair. The fear of our beloved game transitioning into a live service or free-to-play model was looming over us like a dark cloud, threatening to dampen the joy we found in this charming survival game.

In a recent interview, Palworld’s developer, Pocketpair, mentioned they were still deciding whether Palworld would continue as a paid title or not. However, after fans expressed concerns about the game possibly transitioning to a live service model, Pocketpair has clarified via Twitter that this will not be the case, confirming that Palworld will not shift to a live service or free-to-play model.

The developer confirms that they will stick with their current business strategy for the game, which is a ‘buy-to-play’ model, meaning players will need to purchase the game upfront instead of opting for free-to-play or a subscription service (Game as a Service).

According to Pocketpair, the interview referenced earlier was held several months ago. At the time, the studio hadn’t finalized their plans for Palworld, but they have since made a decision. Specifically, they’ve concluded that a Free-to-Play/Game-as-a-Service (F2P/GaaS) approach doesn’t align with their goals.

In a nutshell, Pocketpair stated that modifying Palworld with that particular design wasn’t part of the original plan and would require excessive effort at this stage. Moreover, they emphasized that their primary focus is on fulfilling their players’ desires, which this adjustment does not align with.

Regarding additional skins and downloadable content for Palworld, we’re keeping that option on the table as a way to fund further development. However, we’ll revisit this topic with you all when the time comes. At present, our main focus is ensuring Palworld becomes an exceptional game.

In the present, you can find “Palworld” on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and personal computers. There’s a possibility that an announcement for the PS5 version might occur during the Tokyo Game Show, which takes place towards the end of this month. For additional details, follow this link.

With regards to the future of Palworld, here’s the gist: We’ve got no plans to alter our game’s payment structure. It will stay as a buy-to-play model, so forget about free-to-play or Game-as-a-Service for now.
