Pamela Anderson Reacts to Shocking Oscars Snub for The Last Showgirl!

Pamela Anderson isn’t losing sleep over the 2025 Oscars.

During the announcement of the Best Actress in a Leading Role nominees for the 97th Academy Awards by Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott, there was anticipation about the Baywatch alum’s nomination for her portrayal of Shelly Gardner in The Last Showgirl. However, when it turned out that her name wasn’t on the list, the 57-year-old actress confessed that she hadn’t been hopeful.

In a recent interview with Elle, published on January 23rd, Pamela expressed something unexpected: “Wow, this isn’t what I had anticipated.” However, she added, “The joy lies in the process itself.

Among the nominated actresses who received recognition for Leading Actress are Demi Moore (The Substance), Mikey Madison (Anora), Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez) and Fernanda Torres (I’m Still Here). Although some think Pamela was overlooked, the actress from Home Improvement felt fortunate to be part of such a glamorous film, expressing that she “couldn’t have imagined it any other way.

She clarified, “That’s something I enjoy doing, and often we might forget about it amidst the chaotic award season. However, it’s pleasant to receive recognition, and it’s an added advantage.

Despite the film directed by Gia Coppola not receiving any nominations for the March 2 awards ceremony hosted by Conan O’Brien at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood, Pamela’s performance garnered recognition with nominations for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading role at the 2025 SAG Awards, Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama at the 2025 Golden Globes, and Outstanding Lead Performance at the 2024 Gotham Awards. Among these accolades, she is eagerly anticipating celebrating one award in particular.

She expressed her joy about receiving the Screen Actors Guild nomination, stating, “It’s an honor to be recognized by your fellow actors. That’s truly amazing. This journey of promoting the movie has been quite lengthy.

It wasn’t just Pamela who left fans stunned by her absence in the category. Names like Selena Gomez, nominated for her role in Emilia Pérez at the Golden Globes, were also missing from the list of nominees. Other surprising omissions as pointed out by fans included Margaret Qualley from The Substance, Angelina Jolie from Maria, and Nicole Kidman from Babygirl.

Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that some names on the list of nominees are particularly noteworthy as they signal a special achievement. For instance, The Substance‘s Demi received her first-ever Oscar nomination for Best Actress after a remarkable 40 years in the entertainment industry. Interestingly enough, all the other actresses nominated in her category are also making their debuts in this prestigious event. Among them are Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez), Ariana Grande (Wicked), Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown), and Isabella Rossellini (Conclave). Following the announcement, Demi publicly shared her profound feelings about this recognition.

62-year-old actor expressed that being nominated for an Oscar is more than he could ever have imagined, and the past few months have surpassed his wildest dreams. He struggles to find words to fully convey his joy and deep gratitude for this recognition. It’s not just about him, but also what the film symbolizes. The actor feels profoundly humbled by this honor.

Despite Emilia Pérez, also known as Jessi Del Monte, receiving favorable reviews for her performances and even being nominated for a Golden Globe, she was not included in the list of nominees for the category of Best Supporting Actress.

One who did find themselves on the coveted list was Monica Barbaro.

Monica’s unexpected nomination for her role as Joan Baez in “A Complete Unknown” is pleasantly surprising, considering she wasn’t nominated for a Golden Globe this year. However, her performance did receive recognition with a nod at the 2025 SAG Awards.

In contrast to Maria’s recent recognition for her role in “The Eternals” last year, which marked her first major part since 2021, Angelina Jolie was overlooked for an Oscar nomination this time, although she had been nominated for a Golden Globe.

It’s no secret that they were up for nomination; however, what may catch you off guard is that these seasoned Hollywood actors are receiving their first-ever Academy Award nominations this year.

Notable figures who are receiving their first nominations after lengthy careers include Demi Moore (for “The Substance”), Guy Pearce (for “The Brutalist”), Isabella Rossellini (for “Conclave”), Zoe Saldaña (for “Emilia Pérez”), Kieran Culkin (for “A Real Pain”), and Brazil’s Fernanda Torres (for “I’m Still Here”).

Even though the movie Wicked enjoyed both commercial triumph and high praise from critics, it failed to earn recognition for its director in the Directing category, despite being 45 years old.

The fact that the horror movie, starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley, which received a Best Picture nomination, isn’t entirely unexpected considering its favorable response, is still an unusual move as it breaks a long-standing trend of horror films being excluded from the main category.

In the same cinematic genre, a few past films that have been nominated for Best Picture include “Get Out,” “The Silence of the Lambs,” “The Sixth Sense,” and “The Exorcist.

Although the actress famed for “Babygirl” (five-time Academy Award nominee during her career) received recognition at the Golden Globe Awards, she did not make it to this year’s Oscar nominees list.

Although the film about tennis, featuring stars like Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor, didn’t receive any Oscar nominations, surprisingly, it missed out on recognition in the Music (Original Score) category.

In truth, the electronic, heavily bass-laden soundtrack essentially took on a life of its own within the movie, setting it apart as one of the most distinctive soundtracks from the past year.

Keen observers during the announcement might have spotted that for some titles displayed, it reads “Nominees will be decided later.

As stated by the Academy, for a producer to be considered eligible for the awards, they must first be approved by the Producers Guild of America. However, since we’re discussing nominees, their names might still be under review or awaiting confirmation.

The announcements, coming in early February, therefore promise to be a surprise for all.

57-year-old Pamela’s acting in “The Last Showgirl” was applauded by critics and even got her a Golden Globe nomination, but she, along with the entire cast including Jamie Lee Curtis and the movie itself, were unfortunately not recognized with an Oscar nomination.

Absolutely, it’s true that the actress from “The Mindy Project” is now involved with Anuja, who was nominated for a Live Action Short Film, having contributed to its production.
