Paralympian Sam Ruddock Mysteriously Disappears in Las Vegas

Authorities are searching for a Paralympic athlete who mysteriously vanished.

Sam Ruddock, a competitor who represented Great Britain’s team in cycling, shotput, and sprinting events at the 2012 and 2016 Paralympic Games, has gone missing according to his family after ceasing all communication on April 16.

Living with cerebral palsy, Ruddock embarked on a journey to Las Vegas from Warwickshire, England, intending to attend a Wrestlemania event on April 13 as shared by his friend Lucy Hatton to the BBC on April 27. However, a few days later, communication with him and his family ceased.

Hatton, who referred to her friend as an exceptional individual, also verified that he had recently visited her before embarking on a foreign trip. She expressed to the media outlet that Ruddock is usually quite vocal and active on social platforms, so his unexpected absence from these channels “began to arouse suspicion,” and added that his disappearance was “truly unusual and uncharacteristic” for him.

However, Hatton noted that Ruddock had not “been in quite the right head space” lately.

Additionally, she shared with Sky News on the 27th of April that she was informed her friend had successfully touched down in Nevada.

She made it clear that she was certain Sam had been in Las Vegas, and she pointed out that the worrying aspect was his disappearance starting from the 16th. Since he’s so active on social media, people quickly picked up on his absence.

Ruddock’s most recent Instagram post was on April 16, showing him being given a tour around Las Vegas.

Alongside Fran Ruddock, Ruddock’s mother who also characterized her son as sociable, Hatton reported Ruddock’s disappearance to both the local UK and US authorities. The two women are continuing their search for any potential new leads about Ruddock’s location.

As Fran put it to BBC, “Anything at all to piece together the gaps.”

TopMob News has contacted the Las Vegas authorities about finding Ruddock, but they haven’t responded yet.

As an over-the-moon admirer of cycling sensation, Ruddock (age 35), hearing news about his disappearance left me shaken. In response to this troubling situation, British Cycling felt compelled to share their own statement as well.

The statement asked anyone who interacted with Sam on or after April 16th, or holds any knowledge about his location, to reach out to their nearest police station right away.
