As a seasoned horror aficionado with decades of chilling experiences under my belt, I can confidently say that Paramount Scares Vol. 2 is shaping up to be a spine-tingling addition to any horror enthusiast’s collection. For two consecutive years, Paramount has been pulling horror classics from its archives to release as 4K remasters under its Paramount Scares brand. Launched in October 2023, the first Paramount Scares box set included newly restored versions of Rosemary’s Baby, Pet Sematary, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Crawl, and Smile. This week, Paramount has revealed that a second batch of four titles from this collection will be available in October of the current year.
Volume 2 of Paramount’s Terrifying Tales collection features “Friday the 13th Part II”, “Breakdown”, “World War Z”, and “Orphan: First Kill”. Out of these movies, only “World War Z” has been released in 4K format within the USA by Shout Factory, with a disc coming out last year. As for “Orphan: First Kill”, it was given a 4K transfer release in the UK, but not yet in North America. The original “Friday the 13th” already had a standalone 4K transfer, however none of its sequels have been granted the same treatment. Currently, the best versions of these sequels can be found on the 4K restoration Blu-ray discs within Scream Factory’s box set in the US.

As per Paramount’s announcement, the Paramount Scares Vol. 2 collection includes four movies that have been freshly enhanced (or “newly remastered”) and are available in both 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray formats. This set also comes with approximately 2.5 hours of extra content in total, an unrated version of World War Z, and digital versions of each movie for personal use. The box boasts unique artwork, while each individual case showcases exclusive sleeves tailored to the specific movies inside.
