Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog Films Have Grossed Over $1 Billion at the Global Box Office

The Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise from Paramount Pictures surpassed $1 billion in global ticket sales, with the first film launched in February 2020 and its sequel from 2022 contributing to a combined total of $725.2 million. The third installment, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, premiered on December 20th, 2024, and has already earned approximately $312 million worldwide.

The film earned approximately $187 million domestically, while raking in over $100 million internationally, making it the quickest movie in the series to reach that figure. Shortly following the third installment’s premiere, Paramount Pictures announced that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is planned for release in 2027. As of now, no casting decisions have been made; however, Jim Carrey, who portrays Dr. Robotnik, has expressed his interest in reprising the role.

In terms of gaming, Sonic x Shadow Generations has proven to be a massive success for Sega, shifting more than 1.5 million units within just a month. Moreover, Sega has also unveiled Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, where Shadow is included in the lineup, although specific details about this game are still under wraps.
