Bandai Namco and Nintendo have revealed that they will be bringing back the beloved rhythm strategy games, “Patapon” and its sequel “Patapon 2”, to the Nintendo Switch under the title “Patapon 1+2 Replay”. This announcement was made during a recent Nintendo Direct event. You can watch the trailer for this exciting release below.
First introduced for PlayStation Portable, Patapon and its follow-up have players assuming the role of a deity guiding a troop of eyeball-like villagers. By using four different drums, each with its unique sound, players can direct these villagers to confront adversaries. The rhythmic sequences created from these sounds correspond to various commands, harmonizing with the game’s background music.
In the trailer for Patapon 1+2 Replay, they demonstrate that to make your villagers attack, you use the rhythm of pon-pon-pata-pon. Moving your armies forward requires a different beat, pata-pata-pata-pon. As you advance through the single-player campaign, you’ll unlock more of these rhythmic combinations.
In addition to its engaging rhythm-based gameplay, the Patapon 1+2 Replay includes simple RPG elements where players can outfit their villagers with fresh gear and send them into combat to grow stronger. The entire experience is presented in a minimalistic art style that uses limited colors but offers stunning visuals due to its contrasts.
Patapon 1+2 Replay is coming to Nintendo Switch on July 11.
