Path of Exile 2 Players Beg Developers for Much-Needed Fix

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I find myself utterly frustrated and disheartened by the current state of Path of Exile 2 on consoles. After eagerly awaiting its release and finally diving in during Early Access, I was immediately met with an insurmountable barrier – a font size so minuscule that it feels like squinting at a microscope slide through a magnifying glass.

Following a great deal of excitement and numerous setbacks, Path of Exile 2 has now commenced its Early Access phase, drawing in numerous gamers. As we move into the second weekend after its release, players are already praising several rapid adjustments that Grinding Gear Games have implemented based on fan feedback. With modifications to fast travel, combat rewards, and other crucial gameplay aspects, Path of Exile 2 is demonstrating a clear intention to capitalize on the Early Access period for refinement and enhancement. However, a significant problem has left console players yearning for a resolution that will allow them to fully experience the game.

In Path of Exile 2, the initial character creation process is simplified, allowing players to quickly select from one of the available classes, each offering several specializations. At this stage in Early Access, these classes come with a preset appearance. Although some players might find this limiting, it guarantees that we can immediately dive into slaying monsters. Even though gamers won’t spend hours customizing their character, they can still adjust skills and stats, as well as pick from various armor, weapons, and other items.

In theory, these choices would be determined by descriptions of the skills and items within the game, along with text that helps players make crucial decisions as they advance. However, in practice, players of Path of Exile 2 on console are struggling greatly because the font size is so minuscule, making it almost impossible to read any of the text.

Font size might not initially seem like a major issue to some, but it is an accessibility concern for many players. Those with limited eyesight need large, clear font to be able to engage with on-screen text that is, in many cases, essential for understanding the game. Even people without vision problems are noticing just how tiny the font is in Path of Exile 2, as simply trying to read item descriptions on the TV while sitting on a couch a few feet away poses a challenge more difficult than taking on a hoard of Vile Hags.

Tiny Font Size Causing Some Players to Press Pause on Path of Exile 2

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve noticed an encouraging trend in gaming these days – more and more games are focusing on accessibility features to make them enjoyable for a wider audience. It’s just baffling then, that despite fans putting in the effort to find solutions, there doesn’t seem to be any option to enlarge text in Path of Exile 2. This lack of adjustability means those with vision difficulties are left with few choices; they either strain their eyes by sitting close to the screen, squint through a magnifying glass, or sadly, abandon the game due to this initial hurdle.

Indeed, the Path of Exile 2 Subreddit is full of various iterations on the font size struggle, as players on console beg Grinding Gear to help us see what’s going on in the Early Access game. Many players report trying to use the UI scale tools to increase font size to no avail, while others note they’ve been getting a headache from trying to read the tiny text. One player sums up the console gaming Path of Exile 2 best with “This is impossible… an evening of squinting.”

Although every game in Early Access has its share of problems, the small text size is causing some players to hold off on playing this one until it’s fixed. Considering how swiftly Grinding Gear Games has addressed other player issues during the launch weekend, many gaming enthusiasts are optimistic that they will also address the font size concern promptly. In the meantime, players humorously suggest that walking from their couch to the screen while playing Path of Exile 2 might help them accumulate steps!
