As a seasoned Path of Exile veteran with countless hours spent slaying monsters and perfecting my build, I must say that the recent announcement regarding Supercharged Slam’s impending nerf has left me both intrigued and a tad apprehensive. While it’s always disheartening to see a powerful skill get toned down, I understand the necessity for balance in this game.

View Urgent ForecastDespite ongoing issues such as queues and account problems for over 500,000 active players of Path of Exile 2, the developer, Grinding Gear Games, has not slowed down in their balance adjustments, often referred to as the “nerf hammer”. They’ve been communicating about these issues since the game’s launch this week, but on Saturday, they shared a different type of update. This update will reveal which changes are being made first, and when it’s released, one skill is expected to be affected significantly: Supercharged Slam.
The ability called Supercharged Slam is designed to deliver powerful hits that cause echoing damage, making it an ideal fit for Warrior characters using two-handed maces. However, players who started using it early should note that the developers at Grinding Gear Games have decided to reduce its power, as it’s the first skill they’ve confirmed will be toned down.
According to Grinding Gear Games on Twitter/X, “Supercharged Slam” is currently dealing more damage than planned due to the brief time needed for maximum impact. They plan to quickly reduce its damage output. While they strive to avoid altering skills and builds, it’s better to adjust early before the skill becomes a must-use. It’s crucial that multiple skills remain enjoyable and viable, as allowing one skill to outshine others can lessen the overall experience.
Supercharged Slam offers considerable damage out of the gate to be sure, but there are other parts of the ability that are useful such as its aftershock damage and any extras when combined with other attributes. It’s the initial damage that’s getting nerfed, however, with Grinding Gear Games confirming that the damage is getting hotfixed. After that, we’ll see more changes for Supercharged Slam, so if you’re using it to carry through you the grueling game, you may want to start looking for alternatives before it’s nerfed even further.
In our upcoming hotfix, we’ll begin by reducing the impact of damage on the ability significantly. This update should go live within an hour,” Grinding Gear Games announced. “At a later stage, we plan to modify the rate at which charges accumulate, as it is currently building up too fast.
It turns out that Supercharged Slam is causing more harm than planned due to the brief time needed for a full charge and hitting maximum stages. We’re about to lower its damage output… immediately!

Path of Exile 2, which recently entered early access this week, should be viewed as an incomplete game and thus, adjustments like the recent nerfs are to be anticipated. Players of Path of Exile 2 express their hope that the ability will be toned down but not rendered useless since they understand it was too potent yet desire it to remain viable. Overpowering choices being the only options available, resulting in underwhelming picks, is a pitfall many games face. Here’s hoping Path of Exile 2 avoids such issues shortly after its launch.
