Path of Exile – How To Release / Fire Workers

As a seasoned adventurer of the enchanting realm of Wraeclast, I have spent countless hours treading the unforgiving paths of Kingsmarch, and the intricacies of its labor force management never cease to amaze me. The game’s mechanics, while seemingly straightforward, can often leave even the most experienced players scratching their heads in confusion.

In the game known as Path of Exile, an essential aspect involves recruiting workers and utilizing their skills for various tasks. It’s these tasks that yield resources, whether it’s harvesting, excavating, refining, or transporting goods.

In the course of your journey through Kingsmarch, you’ll often find yourself needing to employ workers and keep them busy. On occasion, you may also need to let some workers go from your service. Although the game effectively guides you on hiring workers, it lacks instructions on dismissing them.

Luckily for you, we’ll guide you through the steps required to free up characters (workers) in Path of Exile.

How To Release / Fire Workers

To let go of employees in this game, you should navigate towards Raulf the Hiring Manager, as he’s the one you’d typically visit for hiring staff too.

Once you are in front of him, interact with him and select the Town Recruitment option.

Starting from this point, you’ll find a clear view of the workers who are actively serving you at present. On the left portion of the interface, you’ll find potential hires, while the workers already employed by you will be displayed on the right side.

As a fan, here’s how I might rephrase that in first person: “To let go of a worker, simply click on the red icon with the door symbol located at the upper right corner of their individual card. The picture provided serves as a helpful guide, pointing directly towards the button you should press.”

Pressing the given icon will display a confirmation prompt asking whether you’re sure about releasing the worker. Choose ‘OK’ to continue, and afterwards, the worker will no longer be available for your use indefinitely.

Only workers who are currently idle and haven’t been assigned tasks can be freed. To release a worker who is already working on a task, first ensure they are made available (idle) by finishing or reassigning their current work.

Why Release Workers

One advantage of letting go some employees is to create room for more, as there’s a set capacity for the number of workers your service can accommodate at any given time. Releasing workers allows you to make space for new hires.

In Path of Exile, each worker is skilled in a specific area of work. For instance, the pickaxe icon with a ‘1’ denotes a mining specialist, while a ship icon accompanied by ‘2’ signifies a shipping expert. Therefore, if you find yourself with an excess of workers focusing on the same task, it may be beneficial to let some go and hire those who specialize in different roles.

Furthermore, each worker possesses a rank. As you progress deeper into the game, consider recruiting workers with higher ranks. Letting go of lower-ranked workers frees up slots for the high-rated ones you intend to employ.
