Patrick Mahomes Says Taylor Swift Is “Drawing Up Plays” for the Chiefs

As a longtime fan and admirer of Taylor Swift, I must say it’s truly heartwarming to witness her blossoming relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce. It’s not every day we see such a power couple that effortlessly combines the glamour of Hollywood with the grit of the football field.

Taylor Swift doesn’t have to tell Patrick Mahomes she’s a mastermind.

Despite this, the “Karma” singer’s relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has led to a series of strategic adjustments on her part as she considers the factors influencing their team’s next win, and the Super Bowl MVP seems supportive of these moves.

“Patrick mentioned that she’s quite enthusiastic about football. She poses insightful queries and even designs plays, so we might need to incorporate one into our strategy.” (In this paraphrase, I tried to convey the same meaning while using simpler language and a more conversational tone.)

Since Taylor has been to 13 games of the Kansas City Chiefs, including their recent Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers, it’s not surprising that she’s become quite involved. In fact, she’s shared her increased interest in the sport beyond just cheering for the team known as Grotesquerie.

“She expressed to TIME in December that football is incredible. She feels as though she’s missed out on something wonderful her entire life.”

Without a doubt, Taylor’s father, Scott Swift, is an ardent supporter of Jason Kelce’s previous team, the Philadelphia Eagles. Even though Taylor prefers to display her boyfriend’s Kansas City Chiefs T-shirt instead of her own Eagles one, she harbors no remorse.

As she added to TIME, “I’m just there to support Travis.”

Of course, Taylor isn’t the only supportive one in her relationship.

In essence, Travis traveled globally to attend different concerts during the Eras Tour, and he even joined her on stage in London this past summer – a concept he originated himself.

During a recent episode of “New Heights,” I enthusiastically shared this idea with Tay. I mused, “What if I casually showed up on one of the bikes during the ‘1989’ era? It would be quite amusing!”

He continued, “I’ve seen the show enough, might as well put me to work here.”

Despite claiming himself as an ardent admirer of Taylor’s fifth album, she wound up involving him in her “Tortured Poets Department” production instead.

He excitedly shared, “The ideal spot in the performance was where I could make an entrance, it seemed just right!” He continued enthusiastically, “That moment called for me to take center stage, act foolishly, and enjoy myself.”

Additionally, Taylor too highlights the significance of mutual support in their partnership.

She explained to TIME, “When I say a relationship is ‘public’, it means I’ll get to witness him pursuing his passions, we support and appear together in public, and we don’t mind if others are present. Conversely, a secret relationship necessitates an enormous amount of effort to keep it hidden. But we’re both proud of each other.”

Keep reading to see why Taylor and Travis’ romance hits different.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s romantic journey commenced in July 2023, as her Eras Tour passed through Arrowhead Stadium located in Kansas City, Missouri.

Being a big fan of Taylor Swift, the Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end eagerly watched the concert, hoping to present her with a friendship bracelet engraved with his number as a token of camaraderie. Unfortunately, he couldn’t manage to pass it to her before the show due to her pre-performance routines.

Travis mentioned on his New Heights podcast during its July 26th episode that he felt let down because she doesn’t chat before or after her concerts, as she needs to preserve her voice for the 44 songs she performs. As a result, he expressed some frustration since he didn’t get the chance to give her one of the bracelets he had made for her.

Following an embarrassing slip-up, which Travis himself labeled as extremely regrettable, he mustered up the courage to extend an invitation to the Grammy award-winner, asking him to come watch the Chiefs play at Arrowhead Stadium.

He mentioned on The Pat McAfee Show that he had given her an opportunity, essentially saying “I tossed it over, I pitched the ball to her.” He told her something like this: “I’ve noticed your electrifying performances at Arrowhead, so you might need to come and see me do mine there, to find out who’s more energetic.” So, we’ll have to wait and see what develops in the coming days.

Travis sported a mustache that he grew for the first time in August at training camp, when Taylor was initially introduced to him.

Reflecting on that period later, he remarked, “For a while, that mustache and the number 87 were quite iconic. And I was sporting it when I first encountered Taylor.”

According to a reliable insider, by early September, Travis and Taylor had been exchanging messages occasionally and engaging in brief conversations.

“It’s been very low-key,” the insider explained, “as he’s been in season.”

Following Travis’ invitation, Taylor attended a gathering with Donna Kelce at Arrowhead Stadium to support her son and the Kansas City Chiefs as they faced off against the Chicago Bears. Post-match, pictures emerged of Taylor and Travis sharing affectionate moments at a nearby bar.

Initially, it was believed that their face-to-face encounter was their first meeting, but later on, the “Karma” singer revealed they had already spent a considerable length of time communicating and becoming acquainted with each other prior to this event.

As Taylor noted, “We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”

To show signs of their growing bond, Taylor invited her group, which comprised friends like Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Sophie Turner, Hugh Jackman, Sabrina Carpenter, and Antoni Porowski, to witness the Chiefs versus New York Jets match at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

It’s also noteworthy that Taylor seems to be growing closer to Brittany Mahomes, who is married to Travis’ good friend and fellow NFL player Patrick Mahomes. This bonding occurs both during and beyond their professional football games.

On October 14th, the pair unexpectedly joined the cast of Saturday Night Live, marking their television debut as a couple. Additionally, they attended the after-party for the NBC comedy series and had a romantic evening at the Waverly Inn in New York City.

During a week without his team’s game, Travis took a trip to Argentina to attend Taylor’s Eras Tour’s South American leg. Not only did the NFL player build a connection with Scott Swift, Taylor’s father, at the November 11 concert in Buenos Aires, but he was also acknowledged from the stage with a special mention.

“Karma is that guy on the Chiefs,” Taylor sang, “coming straight home to me.”

Following the performance, the artist of the Midnights concert was spotted rushing towards Travis backstage and warmly embracing him with an enthusiastic kiss.

Taylor addressed the lavender craze surrounding her appearances at Travis’ games.

As a loyal supporter, I’m excited to witness him pursuing his passion, and we’ll be there for each other. It’s not about keeping our presence under wraps; others may be present, but it doesn’t faze us. In stark contrast, some go to great lengths to ensure their relationship remains hidden.

On December 17, the music megastar made Travis’s game a bonding event for the whole family by inviting her father to support her partner.

On New Year’s Eve for the very first time, Taylor and Travis celebrated the occasion as a couple, exchanging a loving kiss at the stroke of midnight on January 1st.

Taylor carried on strengthening ties with Travis’ family as he spent time with his brother, Jason Kelce, and his sister-in-law, Kylie Kelce, during the Chiefs’ match versus the Buffalo Bills.

Taylor met up with Travis on the football field as the Chiefs claimed the AFC Championship, a triumph that guaranteed their participation in the 2024 Super Bowl. After their joyful embrace, they expressed their love for each other by saying “I love you.”

“Tay, I’m gonna enjoy with the guys,” he told her. “I love you—so much it’s not funny.”

On February 11, 2024, the field in Las Vegas was the scene of a romantic moment as the winning team’s pair shared a kiss following Travis securing victory for the Kansas City Chiefs.

On February 12th, Taylor shared a video of Travis on social media for the very first time, playfully joking about their parents joining them for a nightclub outing with the athlete following the Super Bowl.

Taylor’s first Instagram post, which includes Travis, was a selfie taken with Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their oldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, behind the scenes during Taylor’s Eras concert at Wembley Stadium in London.

At the seventh Eras tour concert held in London’s Wembley Stadium, the NFL player made an appearance on stage alongside his girlfriend, supporting her during her rendition of “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.”
