As a follower who has witnessed the journey of Paul Bamba, I am deeply saddened by his untimely passing at just 35 years old. His story was one of resilience and determination, a testament to the power of ambition and the human spirit. From humble beginnings, he overcame adversity and pursued his childhood dream of becoming a boxer with unwavering tenacity.
The boxing world has lost a champion.
Paul Bamba, one of the first boxers to sign with Ne-Yo‘s management company, died at age 35.
With deep regret, we share the sad news that Paul Bamba, a cherished son, brother, friend, and boxing champion, has passed away. A source of light and love for many, his influence was far-reaching. According to a statement made on Instagram by both the singer-manager and the family on December 27th, he was a relentless and determined competitor, always striving for greatness.
Above all, he was an extraordinary person who moved countless others with his remarkable zeal and resilience. His departure has left us devastated, and we humbly request patience and compassion as we all struggle to cope with our loss.
Bamba’s cause of death was not disclosed.
The news of the athlete’s death was announced six days following his victory over Rogelio Medina Luna for the WBA Gold Cruiserweight World Championship title. Known as Bamba, he had entered professional boxing in 2021 and secured a contract with Ne-Yo prior to the match.
For Ne-Yo, he wanted Bamba on his team purely based on “belief in the fighter.”
The 45-year-old explained to NBC News last month that they recognized opportunities where they could assist him and vice versa, which became clear to them. A saying goes, “You never score if you don’t take a shot.
Ne-Yo said he was also impressed by Bamba’s “drive and dedication to a cause.”
He noted that everyone seems to desire shortcuts, wanting things given without effort. However, Paul Bamba is not among those who take the easy route.
A month prior to his passing, Bamba looked back on his career as a boxer, expressing that he had made significant progress along the way.
In a post on Instagram dated November 30th, he shared his thoughts: “Recalling times when I had to sleep near the stove for warmth and wash my clothes in the oven, I now understand that I’m designed to handle whatever life throws at me. Some people expect things to be given to them, while others like me crave it. Adversity is a vital nutrient for those who can endure and overcome it.
Speaking about his lifelong aspiration of boxing, he mentioned, “I’ve always been the underdog in this journey, and that’s alright. Nothing is ever perfect, but I learn as I go along. As long as I put in the effort and take responsibility for my actions, everything will eventually fall into place.
