Peacemaker: James Gunn Shares New Helmet in Season 2 Set Photo

As a seasoned gamer and DC Universe enthusiast with decades of comic book lore under my belt, I must say that the announcement of Peacemaker Season 2 has sent shivers down my spine. With James Gunn at the helm, this series has already proven to be an unexpected gem in the ever-expanding DC Universe. The tease of John Cena’s new gear and a nod to the character’s comic book origins only adds fuel to the excitement.

Work on “Peacemaker” Season 2 is ongoing, and a sneak peek at John Cena’s updated costume has been leaked from an unexpected set photo. In line with his tradition of acknowledging the roots of big-screen characters, James Gunn, Co-CEO of DC Studios and creator of the “Peacemaker” TV series, celebrated the anniversary of Peacemaker’s initial appearance in comics today. Peacemaker made his first appearance exactly 40 issues into Fightin’ 5. To honor this milestone and build anticipation for the upcoming season of the show, Gunn shared a tribute on social media to the debut issue of the character and offered a glimpse of a brand-new helmet designed for Cena’s Peacemaker.

Today marks the anniversary of Christopher Smith, also known as Peacemaker, debuting in Fightin’ 5 #40, way back in 1966, a creation by Joe Gill and Pat Boyette. As you might guess, John Cena was destined for this role, and I can hardly wait to reveal what we have brewing up for Peacemaker Season 2!

Originally published by Charlton Comics, the comic book series known as “Fightin’ 5” first introduced Peacemaker. Later, when Charlton Comics ceased operations in the 1980s, they sold several characters (including Peacemaker, Captain Atom, Judo Master, The Question, and Blue Beetle) to DC Comics. Over time, these characters became significant elements of DC’s publishing. To date, only one of these other characters has been featured in the Peacemaker TV series, with Nhut Le portraying Judo Master during season 1. However, the Jaime Reyes version of Blue Beetle starred in his own film, which hinted at Charlton’s Ted Kord character.

Filming for the second season of “Peacemaker” began while James Gunn was deep in production for his “Superman” film. Despite this, Gunn affirmed that he would still be directing a few episodes of “Peacemaker” season 2. Moreover, it’s been revealed that Greg Mottola (“Superbad”) and Peter Sollett (“Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist”) will also be helming some episodes in the upcoming season.

The second season of “Peacemaker” is yet to be officially confirmed, but here’s what we know so far: John Cena is set to reprise his role as Christopher Smith / Peacemaker, along with Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase / Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Steve Agee as John Economos, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo. Robert Patrick has hinted that he may return as Christopher Smith’s father Auggie in the upcoming episodes. Moreover, it seems that Joel Kinnaman might reprise his Rick Flag role in Season 2, despite the fact that Peacemaker killed Rick Flag in “The Suicide Squad.”

The upcoming season of “Peacemaker” is set to feature some fresh faces, such as Sol Rodriguez as Sasha Bordeaux, Tim Meadows as Langston Fleury, and David Denman in an unspecified role. In a significant link to James Gunn’s expansive DCU, the second season of “Peacemaker” will see the return of Rick Flag, Sr., played by John Cena, who will reprise his role from the upcoming “Creature Commandos” animated series.
