Peacemaker Season 2 Release Date Will Follow James Gunn’s Superman Movie

As a die-hard DC fan who’s seen more superhero movies than I can count on one hand, I’m beyond excited for the upcoming season 2 of Peacemaker! The wait might seem like an eternity, but hey, that’s what Kryptonite does, right? With James Gunn at the helm, you know it’s going to be a wild ride. And with Superman joining the fray, things are bound to get even more chaotic. I can hardly contain my anticipation!

To truly savor a taste of season 2 of “Peacemaker”, you’ll need to exercise patience and wait for James Gunn’s upcoming “Superman”. It has been confirmed that the second season of “The Suicide Squad” spinoff series will align with the DC Universe continuity, starting with the Max animated series “Creature Commandos” in December. However, John Cena’s chrome-helmeted character won’t reappear until after the new DCU launches with the July 2025 debut of the Superman reboot.

In a post on Threads, Gunn revealed that the second season of Peacemaker is set to premiere in the year 2025, following the release of the first DC Studios film. This upcoming season continues the narrative of the movie, which centers around a younger Kal-El, portrayed by David Corenswet from Twisters, who replaces Henry Cavill. The story follows Kal-El as he navigates his Kryptonian heritage while growing up as Clark Kent in Smallville, Kansas, as per the official synopsis.

The specifics of the storyline are hidden within Belle Reve, but the confirmed cast members include Danielle Brooks returning as Leota Adebayo, the daughter of Viola Davis’ character Amanda Waller; Freddie Stroma portraying Adrian Chase / Vigilante; and Jennifer Holland and Steve Agee as A.R.G.U.S. agents Emilia Harcourt and John Economos. New additions to the cast include Sol Rodriguez from Star Trek: Picard, Tim Meadows from Saturday Night Live, and David Denman from Brightburn. Frank Grillo reprises his roles from Creature Commandos, Superman, and a previous appearance as Rick Flag Sr.

In July, Gunn unveiled the sequence for upcoming DC Universe projects: “Creature Commandos” in December 2024, “Superman” in July 2025, followed by season 2 of “Peacemaker” at an undetermined time in 2025. Regarding the DC Studios lineup, Gunn explained that each project will be launched sequentially as planned. This list includes several projects without specific dates such as the series “Waller,” HBO’s “Green Lantern” series, the comedy show “Booster Gold,” the “Game of Thrones”-inspired “Paradise Lost,” and upcoming feature films like “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” set for June 26th, 2026, “The Authority,” a new Batman reboot titled “The Brave and the Bold,” “Swamp Thing,” and “Teen Titans.

Gunn stated on his social media platform that no projects are being actively worked on unless they’ve been given the go-ahead (greenlit). At the moment, this includes Superman, Supergirl, Penguin, Peacemaker, Lanterns, and a few animated series. He further explained that these announced or unannounced projects will only begin production once we have excellent scripts ready for shooting, never prematurely.

Peacemaker season 1 is streaming now on Max (formerly HBO Max).
