Peacemaker Star Confirms Surprising Return for Season 2

As a long-time fan of the Peacemaker comics and the captivating world James Gunn has brought to life on screen, I must say that I am thrilled about Robert Patrick reprising his role as Christopher Smith’s father Auggie for the second season of Peacemaker!

In the second season of Peacemaker, Robert Patrick is expected to rejoin the cast, reprising his role as Christopher Smith’s father, Auggie. This might come as a shock to some viewers since his character was previously thought to be deceased at the end of the first season (spoiler alert!). However, this twist is consistent with certain aspects of Peacemaker’s comic book background. Although the comic book lore may not align exactly with the TV show – Peacemaker’s father was an Army officer and a politician rather than a supervillain, but he did teach Chris some of his first skills.

Following Auggie’s demise in the initial season of Peacemaker, he reappeared in the season finale as a spectral figure, admonishing Christopher for being a poor soul and essentially tormenting him. This “torment” mirrors a pattern that long-time readers of the Peacemaker comics from the 1980s will recall from his earlier DC series.

On Friday, Patrick was with John Cena and they were filming season 2. Later, he mentioned that he had been working with James Gunn on Friday as well. He spoke highly of James, praising his talent and describing him as an exceptional individual with a remarkable mind and a kind heart. Patrick expressed his affection for James and his wife Jennifer Holland, and revealed that they were filming a significant scene for the second season of “Peacemaker” before coming to this location. (As reported by PopVerse)

Initially, Peacemaker, who is known for his pacifist stance yet willing to resort to violence for peace, was a recurring theme since his introduction by Charlton Comics. However, it wasn’t until Paul Kupperberg introduced him at DC (after DC acquired Charlton’s assets in the 1980s) that we delved into the internal struggles and instability this contradiction caused him.

In the 1988 miniseries “Peacemaker” by Kupperberg, Tod Smith, and Pablo Marcos, viewers discovered that Christopher often conversed (often argued) with his father’s ghost. It was later revealed that this father was a Nazi who took his own life when his past transgressions were exposed. This dark aspect of the character has been revisited by various writers in subsequent years. Given this historical background, it might seem startling to viewers of the TV show, but for long-time readers, it’s probably not unexpected that Patrick is back for season two.

Peacemaker is now in production for a likely 2025 release.
