Peaky Blinders creator’s A Thousand Blows releases violent trailer with Stephen Graham and Malachi Kirby

As a cinephile who’s spent countless hours immersed in the gritty underworld of period dramas, I can’t help but feel a twinge of excitement for Steven Knight’s latest creation, A Thousand Blows. The man behind Peaky Blinders has a knack for crafting intricate narratives set against the backdrop of historical violence and social unrest, and this new series promises to deliver just that.

With my heart pounding with anticipation as the Peaky Blinders movie nears its release, I can’t help but share my enthusiasm over the latest development: a fresh trailer for A Thousand Blows, the upcoming Disney Plus series penned by none other than the mastermind behind Peaky Blinders, Steven Knight.

In this series, Knight reunites onscreen with Stephen Graham, who not only plays a role but also serves as an executive producer. The main cast is rounded out by Malachi Kirby and Erin Doherty.

The trailer indicates that the show will take viewers on a journey to 1880s Victorian London, where they’ll witness an underground world of illegal boxing. In this setting, Kirby portrays Hezekiah Moscow, a Jamaican man who finds himself in the East End and interacts with Mary Carr, a powerful leader of a notorious all-female London gang, played by Doherty.

When Hezekiah steps into the world of underground boxing, he encounters Graham’s Sugar Goodson, a hardened and formidable opponent. Their paths cross, leading to a fierce competition marked by deep-seated rivalry.

You can watch the violent, intense teaser here.

The diverse ensemble of the series features Francis Lovehall (with a criminal background), Jason Tobin (from F9), James Nelson-Joyce (known for The Gold), Hannah Walters (starring in Boiling Point), Darci Shaw (recognized from Brassic), Nadia Albina ( Passenger), Morgan Hilaire, Jemma Carlton (The Cleaner) and Caoilfhionn Dunne (Industry).

Additionally featured are Susan Lynch (“Daddy Issues”), Daniel Mays (“The Long Shadow”), Adam Nagaitis (“The Responder”), Gary Lewis (“Vigil”), Tom Davis (“Wonka”), and Robert Glenister (“Grace”).

According to Knight, he was approached with the request, “Could you compose an hour’s worth for this?” To which he replied affirmatively. The project was subsequently taken up, and it’s currently being produced.

As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that the creator himself disclosed an intriguing fact: the series was penned during the pandemic. What makes it even more captivating is his description of it as “more collaborative” than most of his other works. Here’s why: he teamed up with fresh writing talents for the initial two scripts, while others took over for subsequent episodes – a collaboration he found “fantastic”.

Additionally, Graham will join forces once more with Knight in the upcoming Peaky Blinders film, sharing the screen with Cillian Murphy, Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, and Barry Keoghan.

In 2024, the movie “A Thousand Blows” will be available to stream on Disney Plus. Consider signing up today for just £4.99 per month or save with an annual subscription for £79.90!
