As a devoted Peaky Blinders fan who has followed this gripping saga since its inception, I couldn’t be more ecstatic about the news that production for the Netflix film has finally begun! The anticipation has been palpable, and to see Cillian Murphy back as Tommy Shelby, donning his iconic blue coat and suit, is just pure bliss.
As a devoted follower of Peaky Blinders, I’ve eagerly anticipated this moment for quite some time – and finally, the day has arrived! Production on the highly-anticipated Netflix film is now underway, marking an exciting new chapter in the saga of the Shelby family.
Today’s news brings great joy: The filming of the movie has commenced! And here’s an exciting bonus – we’ve got our first glimpse of Cillian Murphy reprising his role as Tommy Shelby.
The image subtly hints that Murphy is depicted as the well-known figure from Birmingham, dressed in a striking blue coat and suit, without fully revealing the details at this stage.
With the announcement, there’s also a picture featuring Murphy and the creator of Peaky Blinders, Steven Knight, on the set of their upcoming movie.
Once more, the screenplay for the movie is being penned by the show’s originator, Knight. Alongside Patrick Holland, Murphy, and Guy Heeley, Knight will also serve as a producer for the film.
The movie, currently being produced in collaboration with BBC Film, has just announced the addition of several notable actors such as Rebecca Ferguson, Barry Keoghan, and Tim Roth to its cast.
As the production begins, we can expect more details about cast members to be released over time.
As a cinema enthusiast, I’m ecstatic to witness the cameras whirring to life as we embark on this fresh installment of the Peaky Blinders saga, unfolding amidst the backdrop of World War II. Just like the nation, our beloved Peaky Blinders find themselves embroiled in conflict as well.
In much the same vein, director Tom Harper expressed: “Our exceptional team, both on and off-screen, are buzzing with eagerness and enthusiasm. We’re thankful for our fans who helped us reach this milestone, and we believe that this upcoming chapter will offer an extraordinary experience.
As I eagerly anticipate the forthcoming movie, I must admit, crucial details regarding the narrative and characters are yet undisclosed. However, in a past interview, director Knight hinted that the film could be set during the tumultuous era of World War II – an intriguing prospect, given his longstanding aspiration to conclude this saga amidst such historical conflict.
Additionally, Knight confirmed that Polly Gray, portrayed by the late Helen McCrory, “will continue to play a vital role in the film.
At this moment, it’s uncertain if any characters from the TV show’s primary cast will return to join Murphy, but originally, we saw actors like Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle, Joe Cole, Finn Cole, among others.
Back in January, when the movie’s release was formally unveiled, actor Murphy expressed his delight at working together again with Steven Knight and director Tom Harper, describing it as a treat for the fans.
Peaky Blinders is available to stream on BBC iPlayer. The movie will stream on Netflix – sign up from £4.99 a month. Netflix is also available on Sky Glass and Virgin Media Stream.
