**Warning: This article contains major spoilers for The Last of Us season 2 episode 2.**
Pedro Pascal has expressed his feelings about the heart-wrenching events portrayed in episode 2 of The Last of Us season 2.
As a passionate filmgoer, I must say that the newest addition to the franchise, aptly named “Through the Valley,” delivered an emotionally charged scene that left gamers of the original series with a heavy heart: the heart-wrenching demise of beloved character, Joel.
Stunningly, Abby, portrayed by Kaitlyn Dever, mercilessly slays Joel, a retaliation for the death of her father, the doctor who Joel fatally wounded at the hospital in a desperate bid to save Ellie (Bella Ramsey) during season 1’s finale.
Pascal has now spoken about leaving the series and what it was like to film the intense moment.
He confided to EW that he’s in a state of persistent denial about the situation. As he grows older, he acknowledges it more and more; he seems to unconsciously deny that things have ended.
Though I am deeply connected with numerous individuals from my experience, I can only encounter them in other settings, not as part of playing Joel in ‘The Last of Us.’ It’s something that brings me sadness, so I try not to dwell on it excessively.

Contemplating the scene where he appeared as a gruesome, pulverized version, Pascal commented that this transformation deeply impacted not only him but also the rest of the cast and production team.
He remembered, “That day was unlike any other when I walked onto the set all made up, but my mood instantly soured once people looked at me, clearly ruining the atmosphere.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Craig Mazin praised Pascal’s acting and explained how the emotional impact of that specific scene was amplified due to his genuine bond with Ramsey behind the scenes.
Mazin mentioned that he had eagerly anticipated the occasion, as it had been a lingering concern for quite some time.
However, I understand that for them, as well as Bella, it was difficult because their bond had grown so deeply intertwined. Their connection is heartwarming, nurturing, and mutually supportive, and the idea of parting seemed to evoke a sense of farewell in both of them.
“There are emotions there, I think, that transcend the acting. They love each other.”
Although Joel has passed away, viewers can find solace knowing that Pascal’s character will continue to appear in flashback sequences, as hinted at in the show’s trailers.
