Penn Badgely might be known for playing an outsider, but he shared some insider information.
In a behind-the-scenes tour with Architectural Digest, the actor shared that the Netflix thriller is shot on the very soundstage where he previously filmed Gossip Girl.
Penn, aged 38, made a fascinating comment during his time in the bookstore’s basement, often referred to as “the cage.” This is the very place where his character Joe confines his victims in the series. He noted, “It was here we filmed Gossip Girl.
Nowadays, the ominous, gloomy atmosphere that pervades the stage is starkly contrasting with its previous incarnation during the era of Gossip Girl.
He mentioned that the location was identical to the setting of the Waldorf suites, where Blair Waldorf lived on the TV show. In other words, it was in this very spot.
Furthermore, Penn continued to disclose yet another intriguing detail, revealing that the dwelling place of his “Gossip Girl” persona, Dan Humphrey, had previously been located right where the bookstore currently stands.
He mentioned that the location with the bookstore was where the Humphrey loft once stood. Therefore, this spot holds a great deal of nostalgia for me.
Penn explored further the peculiarities of filming his two successful series at the same location, contrasting his present environment with when the production of Gossip Girl began in 2007.
He shared, “I had been standing outside, admiring the trees, when it struck me that I’ve been doing so for almost two decades. Then, I wondered, ‘Has their growth been noticeable?’
Penn added, “So that’s just a little window into my brain.”
The show titled “You,” first aired in 2018, concluded its series on April 24th. Prior to its final episodes, creator Penn expressed that no ending would please every viewer, but he believed it was crucial that “justice was administered.
He informed Entertainment Weekly during an interview on April 24th that everything conceivably possible was being handled effectively. In his opinion, the character had reached a fitting conclusion. However, he acknowledged that there is no ending that could please everyone entirely because justice for a figure like Joe isn’t inherently satisfying in itself.
He commented, “Considering this as a genuine person, a true tale, and actual victims, the one thing that could genuinely heal and fulfill is time, given that justice has been adequately addressed.
