As a hardcore gamer and avid fan of the Percy Jackson books since my teenage years, I can’t contain my excitement for the upcoming second season of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” on Disney+. The series has managed to bring Rick Riordan’s best-selling novels to life in a way that resonates deeply with me and the global fandom.
The second installment of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” on Disney+ is all set to premiere soon. Following an exceptional debut, Disney+ swiftly announced the renewal for another round in the realm of demigods and mythical creatures. Filming for Season 2, which is based on Rick Riordan’s popular novels, will commence in August with a release date scheduled next month. In “Percy Jackson” Season 2, we’ll witness the adaptation of the second novel in the series, “The Sea of Monsters.” Many fan favorites are set to return for another adventure, including Walker Scobell (as Percy Jackson), Aryan Simhadri (Grover Underwood), Leah Jeffries (Annabeth Chase), Charlie Bushnell (Luke), Dior Goodjohn (Clarisse La Rue), and several new characters as well.
Before the start of production, the team behind “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” previewed upcoming developments for the show at Comic-Con in San Diego’s Hall H.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Live SDCC Coverage
Percy Jackson and the Olympians has taken the Hall H stage at San Diego Comic-Con.
The panel kicks off with a repurposed trailer from Percy Jackson’s first season, where Walker Scobell’s Percy warns about the perils of being a half-blood. The clip then transitions into a behind-the-scenes segment, displaying the global fanbase’s enthusiasm for Percy Jackson. Headlines proclaim the achievement of an impressive first season. The segment ends with a title card announcing, “Season 2 is on its way.”
Hades actor Jay Duplass is hosting and jokes that he does not have his throne with him.
Executive producers Dan Shotz and Jonathan E. Steinberg speak on stage, followed by actors Walker Scobell, Aryan Simhadri, Leah Jeffries, and Virginia Kull. Duplass cracks a joke about Scobell playfully throwing fireworks at him since the beginning of filming. The group shares their favorite moments from Season 1 of “Percy Jackson.” Shotz acknowledges Duplass and recognizes the core trio, joking that they all have lengthy, inappropriate speeches when not in front of cameras. Steinberg recounts an experience with a father who argued with his sons over watching an episode without him, expressing surprise at how significant this series is for families to enjoy together.
I, as a big fan, can tell you that Kull cherishes her most memorable experience from Season 1: enduring motion sickness while riding an exhilarating prop. Simhadri takes pride in creating his beloved Percy Jackson family over the past three years and boasts about emerging from Cerebrus’s mouth. For Jeffries, the water-based scenes were a favorite part of the job, and she recalls an unexpected discovery – a spider hiding in her armor during the capture the flag sequence.
During a filming scene, Simhadri struggled to act out a painful moment with an injured leg, having accidentally kicked it himself for authenticity. Later, he asked Scobbell to give him a similar kick. On stage, Simhadri quipped about Scobell’s supposed fondness for the Ares fight scene. The footage of the Ares fight then rolled.
Scobell is questioned if he’d prefer Adam Copeland in reality over his Ares character, but he responds negatively. To everyone’s astonishment, Copeland then rolls onto the stage on a wheelchair. He reveals that he sustained a broken leg during an AEW wrestling match earlier this year. Irked by Scobell’s previous response, Copeland shares with the audience how he was able to bring Ares’ grumpy demeanor to life, as a seasoned wrestler understands how to express such attitudes.
Jeffries shares that she found it effortless to embody Annabeth’s persona, expressing to the audience, “For those who understand, you’ll know.” She admits that Annabeth’s intelligence influenced her deeply. She acknowledges that the Percy Jackson series cast members were still growing in their acting abilities during Season 1 and have significantly improved in Season 2. She expresses her affection for fans and hints at an exciting journey “there” ahead.
Simhadri found it utterly fascinating to slip into the role of Grover. To prepare, he spent countless hours observing goats in videos for motivation. Surprisingly enough, it took him nearly a year to break free from the habit of adopting a goat-like gait during his performance.
