As a devoted fan of the Percy Jackson series, I must say that the upcoming season 2 of this fantastic adaptation is truly shaping up to be a spectacle. With the addition of the talented Timothy Simons as Tantalus and the heartfelt tribute to the late Lance Reddick in the final episode of season 1, it’s evident that the creators are pouring their hearts into this project.
Production for Percy Jackson’s second season has officially begun! Disney recently announced this exciting news by sharing a preview, or “sizzle reel”, during their latest D23 fan event held at the studio.
Despite being primarily made up of clips from the initial season, fans couldn’t hide their enthusiasm upon catching glimpses of fresh content. In these brief moments, we witness Percy preparing to embark on a chariot ride towards battle, hinting that his journey has only just started.
As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I can confidently say that the initial season of this series truly made waves on Disney Plus, successfully breathing life into Rick Riordan’s captivating world in a more authentic and engaging manner than Fox’s controversial film adaptations from the 2010s.
In the upcoming Percy Jackson series, it has been confirmed that Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri will reprise their roles. Additionally, some significant new faces have recently been added to the cast as well.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 release date speculation
The second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians has yet to announce its release date, so it looks like we’ll need to be patient before new episodes become available.
The production for this project commenced only a week prior to the D23 event in August 2024. Considering it will require at least a year for filming, editing, refining visual effects, and final touches, we can expect the show to be premiered around the same time next year.
Based on our expectations, it appears that the second season of Percy Jackson might debut as early as fall 2025. As soon as we receive an official announcement regarding the release date, we will make sure to update this information here.
A sneak peek at the beginning of the series production, largely consisting of scenes from season 1, was released at D23 to stir up excitement among fans for the upcoming Sea of Monsters adaptation. Check it out now!
Percy Jackson was renewed for season 2 in February, as confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.
Disney Branded Television president Ayo Davis expressed that “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” filled with magic, mystery, excitement, and emotion, sparked the imagination of viewers from all age groups around the world.
As I embark on an exhilarating journey into the second season, I’m overjoyed to join forces once more with the brilliant mind of Rick Riordan, our remarkable collaborators at 20th Television, and the extraordinary team of actors and creators who breathe life into this captivating tale.
“Season 2 could be titled ‘Sea of Monsters’, and if everything goes well, we might cover all five books across five seasons. However, whether this will happen remains uncertain – it’s all about the success of the show. But, what a thrill it would be!”
“The early indications are incredibly positive.”
Percy Jackson season 2 cast: New and returning
In a continuation of their roles, Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri will reprise their positions as Percy, Annabeth, and Grover respectively.
Rick Riordan hinted (through his blog) about an expanded part for Dior Goodjohn’s Clarisse La Rue and a greater presence of Charlie Bushnell’s Luke Castellan in season 2. Both characters will be present in “The Sea of Monsters”.
As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I’m excited to share that showrunner and executive producer Dan Shotz has hinted at future developments involving the character of Mr. Brunner (or Chiron). So, we can look forward to Glynn Turman continuing his portrayal of this role for quite some time.
Shotz explained to Variety that in the narrative, Chiron uses a wheelchair. Traditionally, centaurs are depicted as fierce warriors. To reflect this, the horse in our story has a bandage on its leg, symbolizing a war wound, thus making Chiron’s disability more than just a disguise.
“This particular issue will be handled as the story progresses in later seasons. It’s not touched upon during the first season at all. Currently, it’s merely a minor aspect of the plot.”
In the upcoming season 2, we have a significant new character: Daniel Diemer portrays Tyson, Percy’s cyclops half-brother. Some viewers might remember him from his roles in the true crime series “Under the Bridge” and Netflix’s “The Midnight Club.”
“Daniel Diemer’s excitement and skill will add a fresh aspect to Tyson’s character, and it promises to be amazing watching him in the next season.”
Additionally, Sandra Bernhard, Kristen Schaal, and Margaret Cho will be part of our mature cast, portraying characters named Anger, Tempest, and Wasp respectively in a group known as The Gray Sisters on the show.
In a unique twist, the legendary figures are transformed into three elderly ladies, operating a taxi service within the bustling cityscape of New York, where they cross paths with our courageous protagonists during a critical juncture in their adventures amidst the Monster’s Sea.
To wrap up, it was announced by Variety in August 2024 that actor Timothy Simons will join Percy Jackson season 2, portraying the character Tantalus. Known for his cynical, manipulative, and openly antagonistic nature, Tantalus is stepping into the role of Camp Half-Blood’s Activities Director, replacing Chiron in this position.
His constant grumpiness stems from a fate that leaves him perpetually famished and parched, yet he cannot satisfy his hunger or quench his thirst.
In the initial series, well-known actors such as Lin-Manuel Miranda, Adam Copeland, Jay Duplass, and Toby Stephens made guest appearances. However, it remains uncertain if these seasoned performers will return to their characters for future episodes.
Sadly, Lance Reddick, who played Zeus in the series, passed away in March 2023. This marked his last appearance on television within Percy Jackson and the Olympians, as the second season’s final episode paid a heartfelt tribute to him.
Indeed, the character remains significant throughout subsequent chapters of the narrative. However, as stated by producer Jon Steinberg to Deadline in February, he and his team have yet to disclose their plans regarding recasting at this point.
He added, “I believe there’s a touch of denial as well.” We acknowledge it’s an issue we need to address. However, we are deeply appreciative for the character he developed and the impactful presence he created. It’s not an enviable task for whoever inherits his role.”
What will be the plot of Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2?
In the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, they’ll be adapting the second book from the series, titled The Sea of Monsters.
As a former demigod camper at Camp Half-Blood myself, I can tell you that the news about Thalia’s tree being mysteriously poisoned sent chills down my spine. I remember all too well the feeling of helplessness when our magical borders started failing, and the monsters began to seep into camp. It’s a dangerous world out there for demigods, and we can’t afford to take any chances. We need to be vigilant and work together to protect our home and each other. Let’s hope that this time, we can find a way to save Thalia’s tree and keep the monsters at bay.
Currently, Percy and his companions are racing against time as they only have a few days left to locate the sole magical artifact that can prevent their camp from being swarmed by monsters. However, they face a challenge: they need to navigate the treacherous Sea of Monsters in order to find it.
On my journey, I find myself in a precarious situation where I need to execute a thrilling rescue mission to save my longtime companion, Grover. In the process, I uncover a chilling truth about my own family lineage, causing me to ponder if being the offspring of Poseidon is a blessing or a burden.
Absolutely, it’s worth noting that the show isn’t shy about altering the original storyline. For instance, in the first season, viewers were taken aback when Percy failed to meet the summer solstice deadline set by Zeus, a event that didn’t occur in the book. This just goes to show that unexpected changes can indeed happen.
