As a long-time fan of Jane’s Addiction and someone who has witnessed their dynamic evolution over the years, I must say the recent incident during their concert in Boston was quite unexpected, even for me. Having followed the band since their inception, I’ve grown accustomed to the occasional tension between its members, but this altercation on stage felt like a whole new level.
The band Jane’s Addiction abruptly ended their reunion performance when it seemed that lead singer Perry Farrell struck guitarist Dave Navarro during the show.
Currently, the singer’s spouse, Etty Lau Farrell, is providing a personal narrative about the commotion that took place during the alternative rock band’s performance at Leader Bank Pavilion in Boston on September 13th. This event, which gained widespread attention after fans shared videos of it on social media, is the subject of her account.
In a recent post on Instagram, I shared my thoughts about a challenging situation within our group: “It’s become evident that there has been a significant build-up of tension and negativity among us.” To illustrate this point, I included a video showcasing the confrontation. The chemistry that once made our band so vibrant and powerful, well, it seems we’ve ignited a spark that’s more explosive than we intended. In this instance, Katy Perry stood up to Dave, delivering a physical gesture in the heat of the moment.
TopMob News has attempted to get comments from representatives of both Farrell and Navarro regarding the stage incident, but we have yet to receive a response.
In the video, as the band performs their 11th song of the night, “Ocean Size,” the singer approaches the guitarist during the performance, seemingly arguing with him, followed by an apparent gesture of hitting his back. He continues to speak passionately, and later seems to make a swinging motion towards Navarro’s shoulder.
Based on Farrell’s spouse’s account, the tension within the singer seemed to build up throughout the tour.
In her post, Etty expressed that the sound on stage was overwhelmingly loud, making Perry’s voice nearly inaudible among the music. Each night, Perry struggled with tinnitus and a sore throat. However, when the front-row audience members began to complain, even going so far as to provoke Perry with swearing about the band being too loud and them not being able to hear him, Perry became visibly upset.
She went on to say, “The band kicked off ‘Ocean’ before Perry was prepared, and gave the cue. At that moment, the stage was overwhelmingly loud, so Perry couldn’t discern anything beyond the roar and the resonance of the instruments. By the end of the song, he wasn’t singing melodiously, he was shouting just to be heard.
In the video, it appears that three team members and bassist Eric Avery step in following an instance where Ferry attempted to strike Navarro. They hold back the singer, who was trying to escape, before the guitarist sets down his instrument on stage and departs.
Etty also shared alleged details about the aftermath of the altercation.
“Dave remained dashingly attractive and collected amidst the brawl,” she penned. “For the following thirty minutes, Perry acted like a wild animal – he couldn’t settle down, instead breaking down and weeping profusely.
As a devoted fan, I’ve found myself reflecting on an event that unfolded over three months into this incredible tour by the band. This tour marked their reunion with the original lineup – Eric Avery on bass, Stephen Perkins behind the drums, and Navarro, who’s been bravely fighting long-term COVID symptoms for years. It was the first time since 2010 that we’ve seen this powerhouse together. The band is now gearing up for a performance on Sept. 15 in Bridgeport, Conn. I can hardly wait!
Meanwhile, another rocker has weighed in on the incident.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I find myself reflecting on the recent news that my former band Oasis has decided to reunite for a tour after 15 years apart. This decision comes after years of tension between my brother Noel and me. In response to the Perry-Navarro altercation, I couldn’t help but tweet, “Their attitude reeks.
Following a comment from the user, “You and Noel by night 3”, Liam replied, “I’m not sure about that, but we’ll definitely try to astonish you instead.
