Last year, Atlus faced criticism when they launched paid DLC for Persona 3 Reload‘s remake, as many fans felt the additional content should have originally been part of the remake itself. However, these criticisms tend to be dismissed in light of financial considerations.
During SEGA’s latest investor meeting, I gathered that Reload’s DLC packages significantly boosted their earnings, as per my understanding from the discussions shared on Persona Central.
The publisher reported that the sales of DLC (Downloadable Content) for Persona 3 Reload were quite significant, when asked about their predictions for upcoming ventures.
It’s worth pointing out that Reload not only received several DLC packs, but also the contentious expansion called “Episode Aigis.” While it might seem Sega is highlighting the game’s entire collection of extra content, they did specifically reference the third quarter of the previous year. However, Episode Aigis came out in September.
Initially, Episode Aigis was a re-creation of the epilogue from the PlayStation 2’s Persona 3 FES expansion pack. However, this additional content sparked controversy due to the fact that some fans felt they were being asked to pay for what was essentially an extra chapter, as it was intended to complete the original Persona 3 experience in its entirety, named Reload.
That backlash clearly didn’t have much of an impact on SEGA’s numbers, though.
Indeed, such a realization might spark questions about the possibility of a Persona 4 remake and whether Sega and Atlus could sell an additional epilogue, as seen in Persona 4 Golden, as downloadable content following the game’s initial launch. If the financial opportunity presents itself…
Were you anticipating that Episode Aigis would sell quite a bit? Recall why such additional content is created in the comment section beneath.
