With no sign yet of Persona 6 appearing, many enthusiasts of the series are speculating whether Atlus and Sega will introduce another spin-off or remaster beforehand. Given the scarcity of resources for a new game, it appears unlikely for Atlus to return to the well of Persona 5 again. However, the triumph of Persona 3 Reloaded suggests that a revamped version of Persona 4 is imminent. Recent leaks hint that this could be the very case.
Lately, it’s been disclosed that singer Shihoko Hirata is secretly developing a new game. For those unaware, Hirata gained prominence through her contributions to Persona 4. Naturally, Hirata hasn’t given away the project details yet, but there are hints about it.
Firstly, a related image displays her actively working at MIT Studio 2 in Tokyo, which happens to be where numerous Persona soundtracks were produced. Yet, it’s worth noting that other video game scores have also been recorded here, suggesting it’s not definitive proof. However, what might be more indicative is that she has liked comments on her post that allude to Persona 4.
While nothing is definitive, there’s a strong possibility that this could be the Persona 4 Remake. This assumption becomes even stronger as it seems less likely that Persona 6 is ready yet, given all the indications pointing in that direction.
Currently, neither Atlus nor Sega has provided any official statement regarding the alleged leak and the buzz it generated. However, due to several factors, it’s unlikely that this situation will change. Should either party choose to speak up about this matter, we will promptly update our report with their comments.
Initially launched as a PlayStation 2 exclusive in 2008, Persona 4 was a game that came out many years before Persona 5 gained widespread popularity and turned the series from a lesser-known RPG franchise into a more industry-wide recognized one. Despite not yet experiencing significant commercial success at the time, it was highly praised, as demonstrated by its Metacritic score of 90. However, more people became immersed in the RPG genre when an upgraded version – Persona 4 Golden – was released in 2012. It was this edition that would eventually get a remake.
2020 saw Persona 4 Golden making its debut on PC and later on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S in 2023. These launches have certainly paved the way for a remake that can attract a broader, more contemporary audience with its updated features.
