As a lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I find it deeply saddening to hear about the untimely demise of José Hugo de la Cruz Meza. The incident is a stark reminder of the unpredictability of life and the fragility of human existence.
Peru is mourning the death of a soccer star.
On November 3rd, José Hugo de la Cruz Meza, a defender for Familia Chocca, tragically passed away after being struck by lightning during a game against Juventud Bellavista at the Coto Coto stadium in Chilca, Peru. The local authorities have confirmed this sad news. He was 39 years old.
In unity and heartfelt sympathy, we offer our condolences to Hugo De La Cruz’s family, who tragically lost him after being struck by lightning and passing away en route to the hospital. Additionally, we offer our support and hopes for a swift recovery to the four other players who were injured in this unfortunate accident.” (125 characters)
In a video shared on social media, it appears that Jose and four others were exiting the playing field when a bolt of lightning hit them. A fleeting flash was spotted near one of the players, causing them to fall forward instantly, during the live broadcast of the game.
Juan Chocca Llacta, who had embraced Jose just seconds ago and was likewise affected, shared his chilling account of the incident.
He shared with Diario Correa in Spanish on November 4th: “I released him, we walked three steps, and then a lightning bolt hit us.” He recalled feeling a light illuminating his head and his mind going blank immediately afterward. After that, he said, he has no memory of anything else until he regained consciousness in the hospital.
He added, “I thank God for giving me a chance at life. I am surprised that I am alive.”
TopMob News has reached out to Familia Chocca for comment and has not yet heard back.
Jose’s spouse, Edelmira Chocca Ccente, expressed her shock over the incident. She shared with local news agency Andina in Spanish, “I have a son with him and two young daughters, aged 2 and 7 years old. I never imagined something like this could happen.
The incident was particularly surprising given that the odds of it happening are around one in a million, as reported by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
It was mentioned by Jorge Rojas Ayre, director of Daniel Alcides Carrión Regional Hospital, that all four players who were previously admitted to the hospital have been released. This information comes from Andina.
He clarified that upon admission, they experienced temporary issues like neurological problems, fainting spells, vision impairments, and heart-related changes. However, over time and under the care of the medical team, they’ve shown significant improvement, as well as recovery from their first-degree burns.
