As a long-time WWE fan, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia as we approach the return of WWE SmackDown to USA Network next week. It seems like just yesterday I was tuning in to watch the blue brand every Friday night, back when it was still on SyFy.

The television broadcasting scenario for WWE is set to undergo a transformation. Last year around this time, WWE was negotiating fresh media contracts for its three weekly in-ring programs: Monday Night Raw on USA Network, WWE SmackDown with its history of moving networks from SyFy to USA to FOX, and NXT that divided its airtime between the WWE Network and USA Network. As we approach fall this year, all three of WWE’s weekly in-ring programs will be shifting locations, with WWE SmackDown returning to USA Network starting next week.

The blue brand is altering its style.

According to USA Network’s official site, the popular series WWE SmackDown will sport a slightly modified logo upon its return to the channel on September 13th. This new logo bears a curved design similar to the title case found in the FOX logo and showcases a shade of blue that is slightly deeper in tone.

For the first time in five years, WWE SmackDown is set to debut on USA Network. Previously, it had a three-year run with the longtime WWE channel from 2016 until 2019. During that period, it was known as WWE SmackDown Live, transitioning from a taped Friday broadcast on SyFy to a live Tuesday show when it moved to USA Network. However, in this upcoming stint, WWE SmackDown will continue to air live on Fridays.

As a gamer, I’m hyped! Just like how WWE SmackDown shook things up with their network changes, it’s time for WWE NXT to step into the limelight on The CW starting October 1st. For the first time ever, we’ll be live from a full-size arena, marking a significant milestone in its history. Previously, episodes were taped at venues like the Barclays Center and Scotiabank Arena before NXT Takeover events, but this time, we’re going big, broadcasting an entire episode of WWE NXT television from a 10,000-seat venue!

3 months after, WWE Monday Night Raw follows the same path. Starting in January 2025, the red brand will no longer be aired on USA Network and cable TV, instead moving exclusively to Netflix. Executives from both WWE and Netflix are reportedly very excited about this shift, as they already have plans to offer more WWE content on the streaming platform.

WWE SmackDown moves to USA Network next Friday, September 13th.
