As a die-hard fan of Percy Jackson, having grown up with the books and eagerly awaiting this adaptation, I must say that seeing the sophomore season kick off feels like a dream come true! The anticipation has been palpable since the first season’s finale, and now that filming has begun, it seems like the wait is finally over.
The second season of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is getting ready to start. This television series, based on Rick Riordan’s popular books, debuted on Disney+ in December 2023, airing an eight-episode first season that told the story from The Lightning Thief. Shortly after the finale of “Percy Jackson” Season 1 aired, Disney approved a second season, one that will adapt Riordan’s second “Percy Jackson” novel, The Sea of Monsters. Everyone is eager for production to begin in summer, and this excitement grew when the cast and producers of “Percy Jackson” attended San Diego Comic-Con in July to discuss the upcoming start of filming.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 Begins Filming
The demigods are back.
Based on updates across several social media platforms, it’s been established that filming for Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians has commenced.
On July 31st, director James Bobin unveiled the first snapshot, which was intentionally out of focus and appeared to be from Percy Jackson Season 2 production, labeled as a “camera test.” The slate displayed the words “ANNABETH NYC,” suggesting a possible flashback scene involving Leah Jeffries’ character, daughter of Athena, in the upcoming season.
On August 1st, executive producer Becky Riordan disclosed additional information, commenting on a circulated sketch depicting the grand house at Camp Half-Blood.
Becky commented, “We require that structure, but there’s an issue with sets – specifically, it’s the large house from Season 1 that was discarded.” As I stand in the producers’ tent, I gaze at the exposed plywood side of a set on the outer wall. Simultaneously, they are filming the opening scene for Season 2 within and it looks flawless.
As a gamer peering behind the scenes, I can’t help but admire the flawless opening scene being filmed for season 2. However, from my vantage point on the unadorned plywood exterior, I can see that sets do pose a challenge sometimes.

In simpler terms, cinematographer Jules O’Loughlin shared another film schedule on August 2nd, excitedly writing “Let’s go!!” as the caption. The slate doesn’t provide a title for the scene but instead labels it as “1.4,” suggesting that they are already working on their fourth scene of the first episode in Season 2 of Percy Jackson.
As a gamer, I’m hyped about the possibility that Percy Jackson Season 2 will kick off with filming either in New York or Camp Half-Blood. Most of the action seems to be heading towards the Sea of Monsters, better known to us mortals as the Bermuda Triangle. Our new quest leader, Clarisse La Rue (Dior Goodjohn), is on a mission to find the Golden Fleece in an attempt to save Camp Half-Blood!
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 is now in production.
