Pierce Brosnan Approves Amazon’s James Bond Takeover

Pierce Brosnan, who once portrayed the iconic 007 character, shares his thoughts on the latest development regarding Amazon’s acquisition of the James Bond franchise.

In a recent chat with The Sunday Telegraph, Brosnan expressed his agreement that it’s an appropriate move for established producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson to relinquish creative control and let Amazon take the reins.

As a dedicated cinephile, I’ve been anticipating this move for quite some time, but I believe it was the best choice for both Barbara and Michael.

It requires a lot of bravery for them to move on. I truly hope that Amazon approaches their tasks and characters with grace, creativity, and reverence.

Indeed, Brosnan acknowledged that the decision was regretful too. He further explained: “Given how swiftly our world is advancing today, at the pace of light itself, change often brings a sense of sorrow.

Indeed, there’s a lot of speculation about who might succeed Daniel Craig as the main character, James Bond. The rumors haven’t stopped spinning, suggesting various potential candidates.

As a devoted cinephile, I’d like to share a tidbit from an interview with Brosnan. He mentioned that it was essentially understood, or as he put it, a “given,” that the next 007 should be British. Interestingly, Brosnan, being Irish, is one of only two non-British actors to portray Bond, with George Lazenby, an Australian, being the other.

The decision of who assumes the Bond role is now with Amazon, though Brosnan himself admitted that he might be persuaded to rejoin the series.

From 1995 to 2002, Brosnan played the role and expressed interest in returning to it when he said to GQ: “Naturally, who wouldn’t be intrigued? However, the situation is delicate at the moment. In my opinion, it would be wiser to leave things as they are for now.

He commented: “I find the concept quite sentimental and intriguing, but I believe things evolve, they disintegrate. In my opinion, it would be more fitting for someone else to handle it, honestly. A newcomer, if you will.

Upon hearing about Amazon’s innovative acquisition, Barbara Broccoli stated: “My entire life has been committed to preserving and enhancing the exceptional legacy my father, producer Cubby Broocolli, passed on to Michael and me. This remarkable heritage.

Over the course of my career, I’ve been fortunate enough to collaborate closely with four exceptional actors who portrayed 007, as well as countless other gifted artists in the industry. Now that No Time to Die has wrapped up and Michael has decided to step away from filming, I believe it’s appropriate for me to shift my attention towards other exciting projects I have in store.

In the upcoming series on Paramount Plus titled MobLand, Pierce Brosnan will join stars such as Helen Mirren and Tom Hardy. As for James Bond, it remains uncertain what lies ahead as Amazon’s top executive has yet to put pen to paper on the next adventure.

During a conversation with CNBC, Amazon’s CEO, Andy Jassy, mentioned that they haven’t figured out their next major focus area as of now.

As of now, the story remains unwritten by anyone, but rest assured, it’ll be handled with utmost diligence. This is an exceptional franchise that holds immense value for us, and we aim to nurture it steadily over an extended duration.
