Pirates of the Caribbean: Naomie Harris Doubts She'll Ever Return to Franchise

As a dedicated fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean series, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia whenever news about a potential return to that magical world surfaces. Naomie Harris’s portrayal of Tia Dalma/Calypso was one of my favorite parts of the franchise, and I must admit that I’ve been eagerly awaiting any updates on her character’s future in the series.

Disney has yet to find the solution for reviving the Pirates of the Caribbean series, but fans continue to ponder what a fresh Pirates movie might entail. A reboot of the saga is being considered, along with an idea for a spin-off set within the same world as the earlier films. This could potentially see beloved characters making a return at some stage – though it remains uncertain if they will indeed appear.

As a gamer putting myself in Naomie Harris’ shoes, I can tell you that the prospect of returning to the Pirates of the Caribbean series might not be on the table, but it’s not because she’d turn down the opportunity. You see, I played Tia Dalma, or Calypso, in the second and third installments of the beloved Pirates films. Recently, during an interview about my new movie, The Wasp, ComicBook posed a question about any possible comeback to the Pirates universe.

Harris shared with us, “I transformed into a million crabs, which suggests my character has met its end for good.” He expressed his deep affection for Tia Dalma, stating her as one of his all-time favorite characters he portrayed. Therefore, he expressed his desire to reprise the role, but believes she is most likely deceased.

The latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie, titled “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” was released over seven years ago. Despite receiving unfavorable reviews, it managed to rake in close to $800 million worldwide, demonstrating that there’s still potential for this series. Given this, it’s not surprising that Disney has been exploring options to revisit this successful franchise. The only thing left to decide is what shape a Pirates comeback might take.

Back in the early part of the year, Jerry Bruckheimer, the man behind Pirates productions, told ComicBook that not just one but two projects – a spin-off and a reboot – are currently being worked on by Disney. He mentioned that one of these projects has made significant progress in its development process.

Currently, we are working on a script, according to Bruckheimer during his promotion of the upcoming film Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.. We anticipate that it will be completed within a month or so and we believe it will turn out great. Here’s hoping Disney approves it and allows us to move forward with production.

Since Bruckheimer’s interview happened over a month back, it’s likely that the script for the latest Pirates of the Caribbean film has been completed by now. Now, it’s Disney’s turn to choose the path they want to follow with this movie series.
