It appears that the team responsible for creating the tactical RPG games “Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle” and “Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope,” hailing from Ubisoft Milan, proposed a third installment in the Mario + Rabbids series. Notably, Christopher Dring, co-founder of The Game Business, has mentioned that the development team primarily working on the tactical RPG series has been largely dismantled.

It’s possible that the adjustment in pitch for the third game and the team’s disbanding might have prompted Ubisoft Milan to initiate work on a fresh Rayman title. In May, job listings were noticed, with Ubisoft Milan seeking a 3D gameplay animator and a senior game designer. These positions suggested that the studio could be developing a new 3D game under the “Rayman” brand. Although Ubisoft removed the listings promptly, they can still be found on the Internet Archive.

Beyond the realm of the “Mario + Rabbids” franchise, the “Rayman” brand has seen little activity at Ubisoft. The Rabbids originated from earlier “Rayman” games where they initially appeared. However, an October report hints that Ubisoft may be planning a revival for the “Rayman” series, potentially in the form of a remake.
The report suggests that a revamped version of an older Rayman game might be in development, with teams who worked on the side-scrolling metroidvania title Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown and Ubisoft Milan involved. It’s also been whispered that Rayman creator Michel Ancel is providing guidance for this project. As of now, there’s no information available about which specific Rayman game will be the focus of this remake.
A recent announcement from Ubisoft hints at the possibility of a new Rayman game being under production. According to their statement, the Montpellier and Milan studios have initiated an ‘exploration phase’ for the Rayman brand. The company emphasized that the project is currently in its initial stages.
