Plain-Running Hunter Exploration Codex | Throne & Liberty Guide

For the “Plain-Running Hunter” Exploration Codex mission in Throne & Liberty, there are three distinct goals to complete. These activities center around the Blackhowl Plains, specifically near the Hunter’s Respite and Western Campsite. We’ve marked this region on the map provided for your convenience.

When you reach the location, make your way to the first task: either ignite or put out the first Torch along the path situated in the western part of Blackhowl Plains. These torches are tall and stand along the path, as their name suggests. You can find an illustration of one such torch in the image provided above. Keep in mind that these torches are indicated on your map with small blue diamond icons.

Just approach any of the Pathway Torches and switch it on if it’s off, or put it out if it’s lit. Its status will determine your action.

Help a Hunter Fight Wolves

Your primary goal here is to provide assistance to a hunter who’s engaged in a fight with wolves. These hunters are non-player characters (NPCs) that roam around the region and often encounter aggressive wolves. Importantly, these wolf attacks can occur spontaneously, meaning they don’t happen in a predetermined location or at a specific time.

To activate the Blackhowl Plains, you’ll have to traverse it until an event occurs. Luckily, similar to the Pathway Torches, hunters are represented on your in-game map with small blue diamonds. As you navigate, if you spot a hunter engaged in combat with wild wolves, move towards them and offer assistance in their battle against the wolves.

After aiding that skilled Hunter in securing the coveted Hunter’s Reward, I couldn’t help but strike up a chat with them, grateful for their gratitude. This conversation also checks off the second milestone on my “Agile Tracker” – the Plain-Running Hunter Exploration Codex!

Use a Wolf Trap

To sum up, you’ll need to employ a Wolf Trap. Similar to the previous tasks, these traps are denoted on your map by blue diamond symbols and are scattered across the Blackhowl Plains. There should be one specifically positioned to the west of the Hunter’s Respite landmark, as a precaution, as illustrated above.

Once you get to the Wolf Trap, activate it to lure the surrounding wolves towards it, and then prepare yourself for a confrontation as waves of aggressive wolves approach.

Defend the Wolf Trap so that the wolves can’t break it completely!

After spending a couple of moments, I’ll notice that the lure on my Wolf Trap vanishes, signaling that no more wolves will show up. I’ll then approach the trap and interact with it to finish the task at hand.

That’s all you need to do to complete the “Plain-Running Hunter” Exploration Codex task in Throne & Liberty. This isn’t the only Codex task in the Blackhowl Plains, however. There’s also the “Return of the Age of Wolves” task tied to the Wolf Hunting Contest event.
