Derived from the popular novel penned by JP Delaney, “Playing Nice” is the newest dramatic production gracing ITV’s lineup, promising viewers an unsettling experience as they grapple with the shocking premise it presents.
The four-episode sequence narrates the journey of two pairs of parents who must confront and adapt to an unexpected truth – they discover that their boys were mistakenly exchanged at birth.
In a story penned by Grace Ofori-Attah under the title of Malpractice, we join the journey of the couples who are faced with a challenging decision: should they continue to nurture the child they have come to know as their own, or welcome back their biological child.
In summary: “The story explores how much a pair of characters, Pete and Maddie, can rely on the true parents of their child, and even each other, as they reach the brink. They come to understand that they are willing to go to great lengths in order to preserve their family unit.
In addition to its captivating plot twists and emotional acting, the ITV drama “Playing Nice” boasts beautiful landscapes. Where was this show filmed, you ask? Let’s explore that now.
Playing Nice location guide: Where was the ITV drama filmed?
Instead of following the setting outlined in JP Delaney’s original novel, I found myself immersed in the filming process of Playing Nice, which surprisingly took place in Cornwall rather than London.
In terms of specific locations, the village of Mevagissey in Cornwall served as a filming site, along with the Jubilee Pool in Penzance and undeniably, Cornwall’s breathtaking coastline, which played a significant role in many intense scenes.
Kaletsky stated: “The filming was astonishing. Shifting gears, there were several factors contributing to this, including the grandeur and stunning visuals displayed in the movie.
Additionally, I found it intriguing to position these four characters within a closely-knit rural community. London’s anonymity can be captivating when portrayed on screen, but for this project, delving into the complexities of wealth, class, and social hierarchy by confining them in a small town felt electrifying.
Regarding the shooting experience in Cornwall, Kalestsky remarked: “The shooting there was truly exceptional and I’d love to repeat it. However, it wasn’t a walk in the park because it turns out to be quite distant from London – despite being within the UK, you still feel quite remote.
“The teams were simply outstanding, and the atmosphere on set was electrifying. It was a challenge since we filmed from October [2023] through Christmas, making those cliffside shots truly awe-inspiring at times; some days, you’d feel like you could be swept away. We had to adapt our schedules frequently.
Co-executive producer and principal actor James Norton likewise commented: “We started shooting around October and carried on until November and December.
