Over the last few days, the Nintendo Switch 2 has been making headlines, but it appears that Sony, its major competitor, also seems intrigued by the upcoming system. In fact, Sony has taken steps to gather opinions from PlayStation fans. They’ve distributed a survey inquiring about their impressions on the console, its services, and whether they plan to purchase the Nintendo Switch 2.

The survey was conducted shortly after a unique Nintendo Direct live broadcast, during which they revealed details and novel aspects of the upcoming Switch 2, including its cost and launch date.
Amongst dedicated Nintendo enthusiasts, there’s ongoing discussion about the relatively high cost of games for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. It seems, however, that Sony is scrutinizing fan responses to gauge if there remains a strong desire for their next console.

As someone who follows gaming news, I’ve come across a query regarding my interest level: “Nintendo is set to release the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025, priced at $449.99 / £395.99. Given that this could potentially signal a rise in prices for Sony games as well, how much would you be interested in buying the Nintendo Switch 2?
Everyone was right. Sony is now also testing the waters for 80 dollar games. Thanks Nintendo!

Over the years, Sony has faced criticism regarding their pricing strategies, as evidenced by the backlash from the public over the expensive launch price of the PlayStation 3 in 2006 ($599 USD). More recently, the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro will also be priced at $699. Some fans worry that if Nintendo raises their prices, Sony might seize this opportunity to change their game pricing model from fixed to variable.
It’s amazingly amusing in hindsight how “$599” turned into one of those evergreen memes, surviving even the PS4. By the time people are joking about the PS10 (let’s call it the PSx for a full circle), this meme will likely still be going strong.

The findings from the PlayStation survey about the Nintendo Switch 2 might remain hidden from public view; nevertheless, it’s possible for us to observe these results reflected in Sony’s future gaming strategies over the upcoming years. Ultimately, we can only speculate how the Nintendo Switch 2 may impact PlayStation, but let’s cross our fingers and hope that our wallets will not suffer unduly from this competition!
What impact might the latest survey from Playstation regarding the Nintendo Switch 2 have on consumers? Are you concerned about potential price increases for future Nintendo and PlayStation products?
