Fans of PlayStation might not have been thrilled to hear about a possible PS6 launch date, given that Sony launched the PS5 five years ago and followed up with the PS5 Pro last year. There’s speculation that PlayStation could be developing its first handheld console since the PS Vita, but it remains uncertain what the next PlayStation hardware will be. Regardless, it seems reasonable to assume that the PS6 is a strong possibility for the future of PlayStation.
If the time difference between the launch of PS4 and PS5 follows a similar pattern, we might expect the PS6 to debut around 2027. Yet, recent speculations from a former PlayStation executive hint that the release of PS6 might be postponed, potentially moving it past the year 2027.
Remarks were made by Shuhei Yoshida, a longtime employee of Sony who parted ways with the company earlier this year but first joined in 1993 to contribute significantly to the development of the PlayStation brand over the years.
Regarding a possible launch of PS6, Yoshida expressed that 2027 might be too soon for the PS6, suggesting instead that a 2028 release could be more fitting. Despite acknowledging that he doesn’t have exact knowledge about the PS6 release date, as it is yet to be decided by PlayStation, his comments hint at a well-informed speculation.
Upon hearing the news, some enthusiastic PlayStation users express dissatisfaction. While certain fans believe that 2028 would make an acceptable launch date for the PS6, others had hoped for a sooner release – if social media chatter on platform X is any indication.
The first fan expresses hope by saying, “I hope it won’t be 2027,” while the second fan, in contrast, disagrees and says, “I hope it isn’t 2027. My PS5 Pro still has a lot of mileage left, and there are plenty of games that were announced years ago that haven’t even been released yet.
As a devoted Sony gamer, I can’t help but feel disappointed when I look at the upcoming PS6. It seems like they’re just cashing in, not offering anything truly innovative or impressive. The launch of the PS5 Pro left me underwhelmed, and honestly, it’s given me no reason to rush into upgrading my console. If the tech behind the PS6 isn’t significantly better, I don’t see myself making the jump anytime soon.
In the speculation that the next-generation Xbox might debut in 2028, it’s challenging to visualize a scenario where the dominant console, tentatively named PS6, launches a year prior in 2027. It’s worth noting that there were four years between the release of the PS4 Pro and the PS5, but this pattern may not necessarily repeat. If the PS5 Pro is expected to come out in 2024, it could hint at a 2028 launch for the PS6.
At present, what we’re dealing with are assumptions, whispers, and responses – there’s no firm fact about the PlayStation 6 release date as of now.
