It seems that Insomniac Games attempted to create a new Resistance title, but unfortunately, Sony did not approve the project. So, at this point, it remains uncertain when or if they will develop another game in the series.
During an in-depth conversation with Kinda Funny Games (available here), outgoing CEO Ted Price candidly discussed the PlayStation 3’s sci-fi first-person shooter franchise, Resistance. He shared that a proposal for a fourth mainline Resistance game was presented to Sony, but unfortunately, it wasn’t approved.
Price mentioned that we proposed the idea for Resistance 4, and he found it fantastic. However, in regards to the timing and market potential, it just didn’t align properly.
According to him, the pitch was a product of many Insomniac team members being deeply invested in expanding the narrative even more.
Price believes that the series has established an engaging alternate historical foundation, allowing for unpredictable events to unfold. He explains that considerable effort was invested in developing the backstory and generating ideas about potential directions for the narrative’s progression, using the Chimera’s origins and upcoming developments as case studies.
He cherishes looking back at the evolution of the series; Price served as the creative director for the initial two instalments. “There are so many moments, both positive and negative, that I’ll remember. It was an education on what we were capable of achieving even in challenging circumstances.
Ultimately, he admits that followers have repeatedly requested additional games, but he cannot guarantee that this will occur. Essentially, he expresses, “We appreciate the enthusiasm of our fans, and they often inquire about a new Resistance game.
Initially, Insomniac Games had plans to create another significant installment in the Resistance series, but Sony declined their proposal. Since we can’t predict if another proposal would face rejection as well, there’s a chance that the series could make a comeback at some point in the future.
