PlayStation Fans Divided Over Big Gameplay Changes to PS4 Exclusive in New Remaster

Enthusiasts of PlayStation are split regarding the modifications Sony introduced to the gameplay of a widely-appreciated exclusive title from PS4, following its latest re-launch on PS5 and PS5 Pro. When one envisions games that symbolize the era of PS4, they may well consider God of War, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Marvel’s Spider-Man, The Last of Us Part II, Bloodborne, Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Death Stranding. Contrastingly, Days Gone is unlikely to be the first game that comes to mind, not because PlayStation fans didn’t purchase and engage with it — Days Gone was a bestseller — but due to its perceived lower quality compared to the games mentioned earlier, as implied by its average Metacritic scores. However, it has once again become relevant, six years after its initial release, since last month a remastered version was released for PS5 and PS5 Pro.

On April 25th, the remastered version of Days Gone, initially launched on PS4 in 2019, hit the shelves with numerous enhancements and alterations. However, one adjustment in particular isn’t receiving universal acclaim from the PlayStation community as a step forward.

Taking advantage of technology’s progress, the updated versions of Days Gone on both PS5 and PS5 Pro feature enhanced dynamic lighting. This results in richer shadows and a more authentic night-time environment. Essentially, these improvements make the game darker, which some PlayStation enthusiasts have found to be less appealing.

One PlayStation enthusiast notes that the contrast between day and night is quite striking,” another admirer remarks. “While I’m enjoying the remastered version, I’m not a fan of the blue tint that appears during night scenes.

Another player comments, “I’m not fond of the changes made to the darker or night scenes. While it makes it more authentic, many games opt for a brighter night for visibility purposes – so players can clearly see what’s happening or where they’re going. The previous version of Days Gone had an excellent night look, but now it frequently appears as if the blacks have been compressed.

While it’s true that not all PlayStation enthusiasts share the same viewpoint regarding the changes made to Days Gone in its remaster, a common sentiment has emerged about these specific alterations. Interestingly, neither Bend Studio nor PlayStation have addressed or responded to this criticism as of yet.

After making all these points, remember, your feedback is always welcome. In the meantime, if you’re interested in comprehensive coverage about the evolving PlayStation 4, such as the latest news, rumors, leaks, and deals, you can find it by clicking here.
