The premium PS5 Pro bundle, priced at $1,000, comes with a design reminiscent of the classic PS1, making it one of the highlights in this special edition. Those opting for either the regular PS5 Pro or the 30th Anniversary consoles were all directed to PlayStation Direct. Until October 10, this is the sole platform offering pre-orders not just for the standard PS5 Pro, but also for the 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro bundle and 30th Anniversary PS5. This led to a significant number of PlayStation enthusiasts being placed in a single waiting room with other consumers and resellers, all eagerly hoping to secure their spot near the front. Unsurprisingly, the situation became chaotic.
As a devoted PlayStation fan, I can’t help but share my experience with the unpredictable nature of the PlayStation Direct waiting room. It wasn’t just about where you were placed; it seemed more like a game of chance, constantly shifting and fluctuating every now and then. One moment, the estimated wait time would drop to a promising 20 minutes, only to leap back up to an hour or even two in the next breath. Sometimes, the wait was mysteriously paused altogether. In all honesty, the PlayStation Direct waiting room felt more like a buggy video game than a reliable service, adding an extra layer of frustration to the already tense anticipation.
Customers who managed to leave the congested waiting area encountered problems with the carts, and often discovered that the desired items were out of stock. The highly sought-after PlayStation 5 Pro Console – Limited Edition Bundle priced at $1,000 was snapped up most quickly. This is not surprising given that only 12,300 units have been produced. Consequently, securing this special edition PS5 Pro will be extremely difficult and expensive on the secondary market. It’s worth noting that PlayStation may produce more units in the future, but they haven’t indicated any plans to do so at this time.
Although limiting pre-orders for the PS5 Pro and 30th Anniversary consoles exclusively to PlayStation Direct helped minimize chaos, it left those with poor queue positions no opportunity to purchase. @PlayStation might have produced 12,300,000 PlayStation Pro bundles for their 30th anniversary without the current predicament.
