As a lifelong PlayStation fanatic who’s grown up with the likes of Crash Bandicoot, Ratchet & Clank, and Sly Cooper, hearing whispers of potential revivals for some of Sony’s deep-cut gems has me practically dancing a jig of joy! The thought of revisiting those nostalgic worlds or exploring new adventures with familiar faces is simply too enticing to resist.
Of course, I’m not holding my breath just yet – after all, the games industry is like a rollercoaster, with its share of ups and downs. But if Sony can pull off these revivals while maintaining the charm and essence that made those franchises so beloved in the first place, they might as well start etching their names on the Hall of Fame right now!
Now, let me tell you a little secret – I’ve been known to crack open a PlayStation controller during some of the most intense moments in my life. So imagine the sheer excitement I’d feel if I found out that a new Crash Bandicoot game was on its way! I might just have to reschedule my next big life event…
And hey, who knows? Maybe one day, we’ll even see a crossover between Crash and Kratos, with the two teaming up to take down a common enemy. Picture it: Kratos swings his Leviathan Axe at a T-Rex, only for it to get deflected by Coco’s Pogo Stick… Now that would be a sight to behold!
In comparison to many other game companies, PlayStation boasts an impressive collection of intellectual properties (IPs). This is evident by the numerous beloved Sony brands that have been absent for extended periods. The desire for these franchises to return rarely wanes, and while it’s uncommon to receive signs that Sony might resurrect some of these properties, intriguingly, it appears as though a few such comebacks could potentially be underway at PlayStation.
Andy Robinson, a journalist, mentioned during a recent VGC podcast episode that PlayStation is planning a few revivals for lesser-known (or “deep cut”) properties. While he didn’t specify any specific games, he did note that these will be smaller titles meant to augment Sony’s release schedule.
It’s uncertain if Sony will have fewer significant releases for the upcoming years compared to what they’ve had in the past, but as of now, they are set to launch games like “Ghost of Yotei” and “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach” in 2025. Additionally, projects such as “Intergalactic,” “Marvel’s Wolverine,” and others are currently in development. So, PlayStation fans can anticipate some exciting releases. Moreover, Sony has announced plans to release major single-player titles annually from here on out.
Lately, PlayStation’s CEO, Hermen Hulst, hinted at the possibility of revisiting some dormant classic franchises from the company’s library. You can find out more about this intriguing prospect by following this link.
