PlayStation Is Removing One of Its Own Exclusives From Sale Without Explanation

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the whimsical world of LittleBigPlanet 3, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia tinged with disappointment at the news of its impending removal from the PlayStation Store. Having been introduced to this delightful platformer over a decade ago, I’ve built memories and friendships within its colorful universe.

It appears that Sony, the company behind PlayStation, plans to take down one of their exclusive games from sale on the PlayStation Store. This isn’t an uncommon occurrence, as games are sometimes removed from digital marketplaces like the PS Store and Steam due to expired licensing agreements. Games such as Minecraft: Story Mode, Deadpool, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and Transformers: War for Cybertron have previously been delisted in this manner. However, Sony’s reason for removing a game seems to be distinct from the usual reasons we’ve seen before.

Today on social media, Sony announced that they will be removing LittleBigPlanet 3 from their store at the end of October. First introduced in 2014 for both PS4 and PS3, LittleBigPlanet 3 is the latest installment in the popular platforming series. Subsequently, Sackboy: A Big Adventure was released which offered a more traditional 3D platforming experience compared to previous games in the franchise. Alongside removing LittleBigPlanet 3 itself, Sony also mentioned that all of its associated downloadable content will be taken down as well. The reason behind this action was not specified.

10 years down the line, starting from now, you’ll no longer find “LittleBigPlanet 3” or any of its related DLCs on PlayStation Store as of October 31, 2024. However, don’t worry if you own or buy either before they stop being sold, because after their removal, you’ll still have access to the games and content you’ve purchased.

As a long-time member of the gaming community, I wanted to share some important news that might affect fellow enthusiasts like myself who haven’t yet added LittleBigPlanet 3 or any of its DLC to their digital library. This is your last chance to grab these games before they disappear from store shelves forever!

Why Is LittleBigPlanet 3 Being Delisted?

PlayStation Is Removing One of Its Own Exclusives From Sale Without Explanation

It’s puzzling why LittleBigPlanet 3 was removed from the PlayStation Store, given that it’s a game exclusive to PlayStation. Typically, Sony could keep selling this game indefinitely if they choose to do so. However, it seems more probable that the removal is linked to problems with LBP 3 recently, rather than any expired licensing issues.

Previously this year, the servers for LittleBigPlanet 3 were shut down permanently. This action made it impossible for players to access any of the user-generated content within the game. Although some supporters had wished that PlayStation might find a resolution for the issues that had troubled the game, it appears that such a solution is not on the horizon as Sony has decided to discontinue selling LittleBigPlanet 3 altogether.

This move is particularly heartbreaking as LittleBigPlanet 3 also encompassed all user-created levels that were built on the first two entries in the series as well. By refusing to get the servers back up and running, Sony is essentially killing off one of its most beloved games from the PS3 era. It’s also yet another blow to developer Media Molecule, which pulled the plug on ongoing content for Dreams in 2023.

Despite the fact that LittleBigPlanet 3 does not offer online levels for gameplay, it does provide a good number of Story Mode levels suitable for both single-player and local co-op play. Additionally, the game’s level creation tools remain accessible, allowing stages to be constructed within LittleBigPlanet 3. However, these homemade levels cannot be shared online.
