PlayStation Plus Drops 22 Free Games, Including Key Exclusives—Are They Gone Forever?

As a proud PlayStation Plus subscriber, I found myself in a bit of a surprise situation. It seems that PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers are about to lose access to 22 different games from both the PS4 and PS5 libraries. However, if you’re just an Essential subscriber, there’s no need to fret as these game collections aren’t part of your package anyway.

What’s peculiar is that among those departing games are three PlayStation exclusives. Now, Sony owns these games, so one might think they could keep them available through PS Plus without any additional costs. But here we are, saying goodbye to some exclusive titles. This isn’t the usual case with Xbox Game Pass, which tends to hold onto its in-house games permanently.

In May 2025, the following PlayStation exclusives will be leaving PlayStation Plus: Infamous: Second Son, Resistance: Fall of Man, and Resistance 2. Additionally, a variety of other games are set to join this lineup: Batman: Arkham Knight, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Before Your Eyes, Enter the Gungeon, Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord, Ghostrunner, Grand Theft Auto V, Journey to the Savage Planet: Employee of the Month, MotoGP 24, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2, Payday 2, Portal Knights, Stranded: Alien Dawn, Synth Riders, The LEGO Movie 2 Video Game, The Sims 4: Island Living, The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners, The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution – Payback Edition, and Walkabout Mini Golf.

It’s plausible, but not definitive, that some of these games might come back to PS Plus in the future. However, it’s highly likely that many won’t return at all. If they do make a comeback, there will likely be a significant period of time before their departure and potential return. Historically, this is often the case.

Currently, it’s uncertain when exactly these PS Plus free games will no longer be accessible for subscribers on both PS4 and PS5. However, historically, PS Plus games tend to leave PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium around the midpoint of each month.

If Sony reveals additional details about the reasons behind the departure of the mentioned group of PlayStation exclusives, we’ll make sure to keep the story current.
