PlayStation Plus Is Losing 12 PS5 and PS4 Games Soon

As a dedicated PlayStation gamer with countless hours poured into the Horizon series, Marvel games, and Star Ocean adventures, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment upon hearing the news that some of my favorite titles are about to leave the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog. The departure of Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, and Alien: Isolation feels like a blow to the gaming community, especially since we rarely get to keep these games forever.

1. Sony plans to remove 12 games from its PlayStation Plus catalog for both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 in the near future. Just like Xbox Game Pass, the games added to the PS Plus catalog don’t stay forever. Interestingly, unlike Microsoft with Game Pass, Sony occasionally takes out even their own first-party games from the catalog. Regrettably, this upcoming removal wave will affect some prominent titles on the platform for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

Starting today, Sony has added several games to its “Last Chance to Play” category on PS Plus for PlayStation consoles. Among the games leaving soon are notable titles like “Horizon Forbidden West”, the sequel to “Horizon Zero Dawn” which was released in early 2022 for both PS5 and PS4. Other significant additions include “Marvel’s Midnight Suns”, “Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2”, and “Alien: Isolation”. The latter has seen a surge in popularity lately due to the recent release of “Alien: Romulus” in theaters.

Here’s the full list of titles being taken off of PS Plus:

  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • Marvel’s Midnight Suns
  • Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2
  • Alien: Isolation
  • Nier: Replicant
  • Spiritfarer
  • Cloudpunk
  • Star Ocean: The Divine Force
  • Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness
  • Star Ocean: Till the End of Time
  • Star Ocean: First Departure R
  • Star Ocean: The Last Hope

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve come to expect Sony’s silence regarding the departure of games from PS Plus. Historically, the “Last Chance to Play” section is updated about a month before titles are yanked off. If this pattern continues, we might be saying goodbye to all 12 of these games on September 17th. Regarding the upcoming additions in September, Sony’s still keeping most under wraps, but it’s confirmed that “Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions” and “The Plucky Squire” will join different tiers of the platform next month.
