As a long-time PlayStation gamer with countless hours clocked in various titles across generations, I can’t help but feel a pang of sadness upon hearing about the upcoming departures from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog. The removal of games like NBA 2K24, Destroy All Humans! 2: Reprobed, and Need for Speed Unbound is never an easy pill to swallow. These titles hold nostalgic value not just for their gameplay but also for the memories they’ve given us as part of our virtual escapes and social experiences.
Starting August 2024, PlayStation Plus will bid farewell to some games from its Game Catalog. Currently, the catalog has been updated with fresh additions for Extra and Premium members such as “Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion,” “Remnant 2,” and “No More Heroes III.” However, it’s important to note that come August, the following games will no longer be available: [List of games leaving the platform].
Five games will be taken off PS Plus’s Game Catalog in August, including NBA 2K24, Destroy All Humans! 2: Reprobed, and Need for Speed Unbound which are the more well-known titles. The lesser-known games leaving the catalog may disappoint some subscribers. This update is anticipated to occur on August 20th, as that’s usually when the Game Catalog undergoes its monthly refresh.

As a long-time PlayStation fan and PS Plus subscriber, I’m always excited to see what new games are added to the service each month. Lately, Sony has been treating us to some fantastic classic titles from the PS2 era, such as “Summoner,” “Tomb Raider Legend,” and “Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus.” These games bring back so many memories of my youth, and it’s a delight to be able to replay them on my current console.
During this period, from July 2024 until August 6th, the lineup of free games for subscribers stays active. The current selection features “Borderlands 3,” “NHL 24,” and “Among Us.” I’d recommend giving “Borderlands 3” a try before August 9th, as that’s when its film adaptation is set to hit theaters.
